Description:
"Britannia". 1st Ed was 1586, by William Camden (Guilielmo Camdeno). This is the 1st German Ed, 3rd of all editions. Spine rebound mid 1800's, keeping the original board leather (see pictures). Last pg of the index was adhered to the back cover (see picture). Damp marks are on the edges of some pages, but does not get to the printing. Published in Latin. For two centuries Britannia was the authority on Ancient British history, and was frequently reprinted.
Roughly, for every book published from 1500 to 1600, there were 1000 published by 1700. For each of those, there were 1,000 published by 1800. For each of those, there were 2,000 published by 1900. For each of those, there were 10,000 published by 2000. Incunabulum, those published from Gutenberg to 1499, sell mostly by the page, while some from the 1500s, such as "Decreatum Aureum", also sell by the page.

Book Library of Congress does not have a copy of this book; This is a book of poems, one opera (The Climax of Iniquity, 20 pgs. in length) and one song. The poem, A Voice from the Clouds is missing up to stanza 19 of 32. First "Monody on the death of Thomas Jefferson" is missing. "Another, on the same subject" is present. "The Epitaph" (to Jefferson's death) is present; printed by Thomas W. White; pp 132 is last pg. but contents list a song on 135, pgs. 7-14, 103-110, 117-120, 127-8 133-6 missing; 7.25"x4.25"; Hardcover w/leather spine. Front cover is a copy of the title page. Rear cover is an advertisement for T. W. White's Printing Establishment. Covers are stained and worn, barely readable, but in fair condition.

German language, 1762 Edition. There are 18 introductory pages and 596 numbered pages. Marbled paper covered boards, with some loss to lower spine paper, and has red colored page edges (see pictures). There is a frontis engraving, and 16 numbered fold out engravings, plus an engraving at page 352, which is not numbered or counted, and those at pages 406 and 422 are both numbered 12. Engraving are at pages 304, 308, 312, 316, 320, 344, 348, (352), 364, 400, 404, 406, 422, 438, 462, 464, 476. The pages have even, very light toning, and very little foxing. Binding is tight (see pictures).
