Armorial bookplate of Cornelius Walford to front pastedown. also a long handwritten note referring to the Walford family and signed Walford to the verso of the front free endpaper. Different owners signature (dated 1863) to verso of frontis. Very small brown mark to one plate, else contents VG. Externally, the spine appears to have been repaired at some point and the gilt lettering is rather dull, so G+.

Title in gilt on a label to second compartment. 9.25ins x 7.25ins, [iv], xxiv, 464pp plus 14 plates (5 folding). Internally, there is a little light browning to the edges of some pages, but the rest of the text and the plates are nice and clean. Externally,the original boards are scuffed and worn, the replacement spine is not sympathetic, being a much darker colour. Overall, a sturdy well preserved copy, but not the prettiest book on the shelf.
