Spine cloth worn, but complete.Two 1/2" circular marks impact authors name on front cover. Half-title page appears repaired at gutter. Mildly age-toned margins/ one page corner tip creased. Clean and tight text. Unpaginated. Last page lists authors back titles ("Eneas Africanus" among titles, issued same year as this title), and retail price at time of publishing.Author wrote several pro-slavery fantasies, which were poular in the South. He had a weekly column in the Atlanta Journal from 1922 - 1938. Difficult to find in the original issue. Approx. 5" x 7" H. Protected in a mylar slip.

Gilt spine titles on red background. Crown and foot of spine cloth very mildly worn/frayed. No markings at all; clean and tight set. Both volumes have a b/w frontispiece with original tissue guards in place. Vol. 1 is of Eliot at age 30. Vol. II is of Eliot's childhood home. Vol. I interior hinge is showing a tad of webbing - does not detract and is still a very tight copy. A truly fabulous two volume set. Originally published in 1860, a year after she wrote "Adam Bede". This is a classic to treasure. Suggest Media postage, due to weight.

She was a leading Victorian novelist, poet, journalist and translator. Original tissue guards over each frontispiece. Top edge gilt has a few scuffs. Green cloth with gilt titles. A thirteen (13) page author introduction in Volume I. Green cloth has several faint marks/stains, but they really do not detract. Interior is clean and tight. No markings.Top corners are gently bumped. A wonderful way to read this classic. Eliot, aka, Mary Ann Evans, wrote this title three years after "Romola".
