Overall fair.

London, Rivingtons, 1930,. see description. first edition, xiv,343pp, frontis and 59 other illustrations from early journals, MSS, books of hours, cathedral sculptures and church paintings, publisher's boards, title gilt on spine, the dw torn with a bit missing from the top now protected by a transparent film, it also shows that publisher's should not trust a designer to decide what goes on a dustwrapper: we have a review from The Oxford Magazine, "A word of praise is due to the illustrations ..... the author's good taste.", and above it a picture of two religious ladies outside their nunnery completely unmoved that in front of them the naked unholy (Protestants?) are being thrown into the Mouth of Hell by devils.
