A well-done book on the city and surrounding area. Many early and subsequent photographs from even earlier times. In 1898, Cranbrook had only 75 residents, all eagerly anticipating the arrival of the steel rails. From the Introduction: "On our horizon, we see greater 'sharing opportunities' on the world stage, with many new visitors still to arrive and discover the surrounding natural beauty our city has to offer."

Small black spot on topedges near spine and the rear board. Inset of "Barry Eisler" name on front board (I can't recall seeing that before in raised letters like this). Similar treatment on the spine for title, author and publisher. Some bumping to the top and bottom of spine, still a VG+ copy in a VG d.j. with some chipping to the upper edge of the rear flap hinge and 2" crease indent on the front of the d.j. (not torn). First title in the John Rain series.

Except for the damage to the foredges, this copy would have been "Fine". SIGNED by Harlan Ellison. Kent Bash's 7th collaboration with the author. 1988. Easton Press. All edges gilt. Silk moire endpapers; satin bookmark. Untermeyer's last paragraph of his Introduction says a lot: "Emerson's is a deceptive idiom. Casual and yet oracular, it is at once "rich and homely"; Lowll well described it as "Homespun cloth-of-gold." Without a slogan, with scarcely a whisper of rebellion, Emerson created a poetry that is far more challenging than that of all his "school". Many stories and poems. A few pictures printed in colour, but the majority of pictures were published in b/w. Some of these have been coloured in but for the most part very neatly done. Some sections are separating but the book is intact.

Illustrated glossy covers. A crease in the bottom right-hand corner of the front board 1-1/4"inch in from the side and bottom; corner itself not bumped, and no loss to the picture surface. Copyright symbol and "RIE" in that corner. O/w still a VG copy with some rubbing and a few scratches on rear cover. A book to treasure. Missing d.j. May require extra shipping charge.
