A scarce title. A mystery thriller of the future (1930), when all motive power is supplied by radio waves and transmitted through the ether, generated at big power stations. A professor of anti-social tendencies has invented a "Z" ray, by which all power waves can be cut out bringing human activities to a standstill. Karl Lunt kidnaps the Professor and compels him to use the ray for his own vicious ends! (Locke: A Spectrum of Fantasy; Bleiler).

F P. is likely to be the French artist and children's writer (from 1846) Clara Pauline Filleul / Clara Filleul de Pétigny also known as Clara Filleul de Pétigny / C. Filleul-Pétigny / Claire Pauline Filleul) (1822 - 1878).

German Language. 96 pages of text/tables/diagrams, followed by 100 pages of coloured plates. Very Good, clean, tight condition with neat name/date (XII.28) to upper title page. In original dustwrapper which has sellotape to upper/lower rear edges, and a 2.5cm split to the spine edge, but is otherwise in Good order.

Rubbing to cover edges with surface loss to small section of lower front cover. A few very feint spots to first and last pages. Pictorial covers, illustrated with photographs and diagrams, Index + 4pp publishers advertisements. Nice little Bowling instructional book from 1934 by the English singles champion of 1925. Most of the material in the book originally appeared as a series of "Bowls Hints" in the Sunday Express.

First UK edition first impression (with number 001 to copyright page). Signed by Giovanna Fletcher with a heart beneath her signature, without inscription directly to a tipped in 'Exclusive Signed Edition / November 2017' publishers page before the half title page. Rare mystery by this once popular British writer. "England long ago nominated Anthony Bathurst as the logical successor of the immortal Sherlock Holmes". Brian Flynn (1885-1958) was born in Leyton, Essex, and served as a Special Constable during the First World War. A seaside family holiday in the 1920s inspired him to turn his hand to writing after finding most mystery novels of the time to be mediocre in the extreme, and he decided to compose his own. After a protracted period finding a publisher, The Billiard-Room Mystery was published in 1927. He eventually wrote and published 57 mysteries, 53 of which feature the super-sleuth Anthony Bathurst.

12pp. Scarce original paper. Near Very Good condition with a circular abrasion where a price-sticker has been removed to the upper front cover. 'The Weekly Ball' - Barcelona, 30th November 1922. Complete 12 page Spanish language football paper with articles, match reports, and extensively illustrated action photographs from Catalonian boys / junior games including a number of Barcelona FC matches/teams.

Biography of Irish Presbyterian minister, including St. Enoch's, also Fisherwick, Belfast, and five sections of Sermon Echoes. Loosely inserted are Ulster Pamphlets Numbers 1 & 2, relating to Professor Davey, and a 1960 Order of Service for the Funeral of The Very Reverend Principal James Ernest Davey.

48pp + woodcut illustrations. Fair condition with corners creases/folding. Edge tears, mainly to outer wrapper, and minor dusting. Burn mark to rear wrapper affecting final 3 pages of text. Includes a table of times, significant dates, list of English Kings & queens, weights of coins, table of rising, southing and setting of the Pleiades or seven stars, list of remarkable dates, eclipses of the sun & moon, etc.

Inscribed by Mate Zalka (1896 - 1937 - real name Béla Frankl - Hungarian writer, soldier and revolutionary, captured by the Russians during the First World War, later to be killed during the Spanish Civil War) to the title page. Chipped / worn to edges with loss of paper to lower spine and near separation of the front panel at the spine. Paper browned. A scarce survival of a fragile volume.
