Honolulu, HI: Published by the authors, 1980. Softcover. like new/no dj as issued. Published by the authors, 1980. First Edition. 3 pages, numerous photos and a few schematics. Trade paperback. The first book on the history of the 'ukulele, In like new condition, rare. limited edition. Despite its iconic status in Hawaiian music, the 'ukulele was never the subject of a book until the 1979 centennial of the arrival of the Madeiran machete (the immediate ancestor of the 'ukulele) in Hawai'i prompted the Bishop Museum exhibit and this book. The driving force behind both was Leslie Nunes (1916-98) of Waialua, a great-grandson of Manuel Nunes (1843-1922), one of the three original Madeiran 'ukulele makers in Hawai'i. Leslie Nunes assembled an important collection of early Hawaiian 'ukulele and other instruments, some of which are featured in this book and served as the basis for the Bishop exhibition.

Description:
Honolulu: Hawaiian Mission Childrens Society, 2014. Hardcover. New, in publisher's shrink wrap. Ships from Hawaii. Weight 3.2 pounds, Dimensions 10.7 x 0.9 x 10.7 inches Between 1834 and 1844, a remarkable collection of copperplate engravings issued forth from the Lahainaluna Seminary, a school on the island of Maui run by the Hawaiian Mission. Collectively, these engravings―views of the Hawaiian Islands, including towns and rural settlements, portraits, objects of natural history, and original maps and charts―form one of the most important visual records of nineteenth-century Hawaii before the age of photography. Although most of the drawings on which the engravings are based were done by members of the Hawaiian Mission, the actual engravings are all the work of young Hawaiians, many of them students at the Lahainaluna Seminary. This is the first study of the entire body of engraved work produced by Hawaiians at Lahainaluna Seminary and includes biographical information on the young engravers.

These are Jeffrey Fords personal selections spanning the decades of his career and representing his many stylesgenre hybrids, literary approaches to SF/F/H tropes, forays into the New Weird as one of its early practitioners, realist-auto-biographical/fantastic/ horror mash-ups, and straight-on fantasy stories. Within these pages, youll visit with the mythic jinmenkins of Japan (dogs with human heads), the great poet of Amherst, Emily Dickinson, the Beautiful Gelreesh, a monster of sympathy, a young man who suffers from a rare form of synaesthesia,…

Gagosian, London, 2021, 120 pages, in English and Chinese. 9 1/4 × 11 1/4 inches (23.5 × 27.9 cm) =. This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Damien Hirst: Visual Candy and Natural History at Gagosian, Hong Kong, which included more than thirty paintings and sculptures by Damien Hirst from the early to mid-1990s. The Visual Candy paintings allude to art historical movements such as Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, and Pop Art, while the Natural History sculptures-glass tanks containing biological specimens preserved in formaldehyde-reflect the visceral realities of scientific investigation through minimalist design. Despite their stark formal differences, the two series were made during the same period and share conceptual foundations: an exploration of the relationships between pleasure and pain, transience and permanence, logic and emotion. The bilingual…
