Frankfurt: Johann Peter Zubrodt, 1680. Hardcover. Good. [6], 498, [14] pp. Title printed in red and black. Printed in two columns. Early vellum binding, defective. Popular medical book of the late middle ages, first published in 1589, containing much detail on folkloric remedies. This is a most interesting copy from the library of the doctor Theodore Zuinger at the University of Basel, with an ownership inscription dated 1696 and many pages of early annotations at the front and back. More early manuscript material has been additionally bound in, some of it seeming to contain recipes and remedies.

Text block laid in to modern paper wrappers, edges uncut, labeled in pencil; (title browned and fragmentary pasted to verso of frontis.(vol.I), p.67 and 665-672pp., and pl. V loose but present, few minor tears to plate margins not affecting imagery, some plate not completely opened, scattered foxing; edges slightly curled, lightly soiled). Florentine scholar, nobleman and senator, wrote a massive biography of Galileo, a fine collection of the astronomerís letters and works in four parts. These two interludes are from the second Forsyte trilogy, which is called "A Modern Comedy." "A Silent Wooing" is the interlude between "The White Monkey" and "The Silver Spoon." "Passers By" is that between "The Silver Spoon" and "Swan Song." Lovely.

Although nothing here explicitly indicates as much, this book from the estate of Galsworthy's friend, the publisher, Nelson Doubleday, to who he had dedicated his book "Swan Song" a year earlier.
