Brand new 1st Edition!Zondervan's Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary series is a biblically accurate and helpful tool for the Bible student who desires to understand both the text and culture. Garland's 116-page commentary provides a 'Bridging Contexts' and 'Contemporary Significance' format to help Bible students examine thoroughly each passage. There is an excellent chart contrasting the Passover and the Lord's Supper, Lists of Sidebars, an Index of Photos and Maps, and an exhaustive list of many abbreviations used in scripture study not found elsewhere.
Here's one review online: '…the book helps the readers to establish their Biblical knowledge to daily Christian life. From another aspect, there are not many exegeses books to the Mark (compared with other Books in the Bible). Therefore, Zondervan has devoted another precious message to self-study scriptures as well as ministering to modern Christians….' And another: "You will gain so much insight into… Read More

Description:
Looking for a commentary on the New Testament Gospel of Luke? Then this conservative, verse-by-verse 685-page hardback commentary is what you need! FIRST EDITION, reprinted in 1960.
Consider this very descriptive and informative online review: 'This commentary on Luke's Gospel, part of the NICNT series, is Norval Geldenhuy's contribution to the studies of the third Gospel. The writing is clear and concise, while exhibiting thoroughness and depth. Thus, the commentary is appropriate both for the scholar and layperson. Along with the verse-by-verse commentary on the text, there is a significant amount of introductory matter dealing with Dr. Luke, the sources, the date of writing, the style, and the aim of the Gospel. One will find Geldenhuy's discussion of the date of the writing of this Gospel particularly interesting. Unlike the consensus among critical scholars, who generally assign a post-70 AD date to its writing, Geldenhuy's makes a persuasive case for dating its writings in the 60s AD. At the… Read More

Description:
This classic work by Siegfried Goebel has not weathered the years well! Though its 455 pages are unmarked and intact, the previously exquisite cover is worn and the spine is separated from the Rough cut or Deckled-edged textblock. Summary: Jesus' illustrative teaching in parables in the Gospels are central to understanding Jesus' life and death and also to the nation of Israel. Nearly a third of the words of Jesus recorded in the four Gospels are found in His parables. Siegfried Goebel's book contains an exhaustive study and detailed analysis of these parables. A critical introduction defines "parable" and places Jesus in the context of religious instruction in first-century Palestine.

Description:
Everything you've always wanted to know about the Jewish people; it's in this 188 page easy-to-read paperback in almost new condition. The back cover states: "If you find it remarkable that Jewish people have maintained their identity through centuries of dispersion and persecution; if you have every tried to relate to a Jewish friend and found yourself hindered by misunderstanding and cultural differences, Our Jewish Friends is designed to help you. In layman's language, Dr. Louis Goldberg concisely and clearly describes Jewish holidays, religious practices, and doctrines. He gives valuable suggestions to the Christian desiring to lead a Jewish person to the Messiah. Included are a useful chart of Jewish beliefs, a helpful section on key Messianic prophecies, and a significant chapter of thoughtful responses to Jewish objections to Christianity."
