Description:
Newberry, SC: Elbert H. Aull Co, 1902. First. Hard Bound. VG, a couple of spots on the front board. (See photo). Has two library stamps on the front paste down and ffep. No other markings. Lettering vg on front board, faded some on the spine./None.. Very scarce in the first. First copy I've seen. Very Southern sympathetic as the author was a resident of Columbia when all this took place and was later mayor of the city. His statement places the blame directly on Sherman's men, as there were no fires when the Confederates abandoned the city. The major blaze began in the northwest part of the city and spread rapidly due to a high wind. There was no doubt in the author's mind it was a conflagration caused by drunken soldiers and was not done under any official order.

Baltimore: Sun Printing, 1904. First. Hard Cover. XLib with librarian induced faults. Number on front board, periodic acquisition stamp although not hindering the text. The frontisepiece and title page are clean.Hinges good, tight and square./None.. A rare Confederate memoir. A Marylander serving in the First Maryland Infantry, CSA, then attached to the Second Virginia Cavalry and finally to the First Maryland Cavalry Battalion, CSA. He was present at all the major engagements from First Manassas on. His narrative is refreshing in that it covers only what Gill saw and did, it does not critique or try to explain general officer strategy. Howes 169. Description:
Leavenworth, KS: Journal of the U.S. Cavalry Association, 1911. Offprint. Wraps. VG+/None. Gilpin, a clerk in Upton's HQ, wrote an article for the Cavalry Association by the same title in 1908. The article is found in Dornbusch under Third Iowa Cavalry. This article was then reprinted into this book. This copy seems to be inscribed and signed by Major General James Harrison Wilson, Commander of the Campaign. Looks so real, but isn't!! Strange story: I purchased this book many years ago and it was a part of my library as a special item due to the inscription/signature. By accident an identical copy was offered on for $850. I contacted the seller with a picture and proof we had like copies, not the original. The seller withdrew the book but later offered it for $350 which they got!! Still a valuable account of operations by General Wilson at the very close of the War in Alabama and Georgia. VERY RARE!!

Baltimore: Guggenheimer, Weil, 1900. 1900 Edition. Hard Cover. Book is nicely rebound. Edges faded gilt. Book has been used but not abused. Some minor page soiling and wear./None.. Goldsborough, W.W. The Maryland Line in the Confederate Army, 1861-1865. Guggenheimer, Weil, Baltimore. Copyright 1900. This is a second edition of the 1869 first. This edition is advertised as "Revised and expanded." This edition physically larger than the first edition. Equally scarce. In Tall Cotton - 69: "The best study of a Maryland unit. Author was one of few who admitted robbing dead soldiers." Nevins I-95. Coulter 192: " His unit served primarily in the Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia. It did service at Gettysburg." Howes 226. Although it appears there was little change from the earlier first edition, this copy is thought of as another edition. The narrative is divided into chapters discussing specific Maryland units. Many portraits and some unit rosters. A scarce find!!

Description:
NY: Savas Beatie, 2007. Second Edition, First Printing. Hard Cover. VG+/VG+. Fantastic book! Loaded with myriad maps of this pivotable battle. When a situation changed the author added a new map to show the what has occurred. This make the flow of the campaign easy to follow and the illustrations fit hand in glove with the excellent narrative. Gottfried gets down to the regiment level in his drawings but the reader is not overwhelmed with confusing illustrations. This a second edition without the colored maps.
