Description:
Hugh Garner (1913-1979) was born in England, but moved with his family to Canada in 1919. His writing was greatly informed by his experiences growing up in the working-class neighbourhood of Cabbagetown in Toronto, Ontario. As a result, and given his support of socialism, his realistic literary works frequently focus on the working-class and the exploitation of the worker. His 1950 novel Cabbagetown perfectly reflects his preferred subject matter.
The Intruders may perhaps be understood as a return to Cabbagetown for Garner. Set once again in the Toronto neighbourhood, this time Garner provides an account of the meeting of the work-class residents of Cabbagetown, for many of whom the goal has always been to escape the neighbourhood, with the new middle-class residents who are moving into the neighbourhood.
This volume is inscribed by the author, and is in Very Good condition, with some minor wear to the edges of the boards and spine. The dust jacket is present and may also be said to be in Very Good… Read More

Description:
A study of Tennyson's Idylls of the King, including a comparison with Browning by John F. Genung, professor of rhetoric at Amherst College. Based on a lecture he gave in Boston, it is described by the Journal of Education as "thorough and illuminative, perhaps beyond anything before attempted on the subject" (vol. 66, no. 19, 1907). This copy is in very good shape, with some wear to the red fabric covering the boards, and some mild bumping to the corners. The interior is mostly clean, with bright red chapter numbers, drop capitals, and rubrics. There are a couple instances of underlining in pencil.

Description:
A collection of short stores by Leslie Gordon Barnard. Born in Montreal, Barnard began writing in 1920, primarily producing works of short popular fiction. He would go on to be known as the most productive Canadian author of short stories. Many of his stories were published in magazines, as well as being published in collections such as this one. This particular volume is number 466 of 550 copies, of which 490 were available for sale. It also has an inscription from the author addressed to W.H. Landry on the front fly leaf, thanking him for his help in producing the book. The book is missing its dust jacket, but is in Good condition, with the paper covering on the corners of the boards worn away as well as some significant bumping, and damage to the top of the spine. Otherwise, the binding is tight and the text is clear. An interesting copy of the work of a lesser known but significant Canadian author.

Description:
Ralph Gustafson (1909-1950) was a Canadian poet and author who wrote more than two dozen books of poetry, as well as a book of short stories, and a collection of essays. He was awarded the Governor-General's Award for Poetry in 1974 for his book Fire on Stone, and was a member of the Order of Canada. He has the distinction of having compiled the first anthology of Canadian poetry which was published by Penguin in 1942.
A Little Anthology of Canadian Poets was intended to supplement the Penguin anthology, and in particular was to bring notable Canadian poets to the attention of the American public. It was part of the Poets of the Year series, which was published by a different press every year in two versions, pamphlet and bound. This edition is one of the pamphlet versions. It includes poems by E.J. Pratt, W.W.E. Ross, F.R. Scott, Robert Finch, L.A. MacKay, A.J.M. Smith, Earle Birney, A.M. Klein, Ralph Gustafson, Leo Kennedy, Patrick Anderson, P.K.
