Through describing the modern art collection in the Janus Pannonius Museum at Pecs, this scarce and beautiful book presents an overview of Hungarian fine arts, many illustrations in colour and black and white, very good cloth cover with little wear, small stain to bottom of rear board, stamped price (presumably Hungarian) to rear endpaper, English translation by Elisabeth Hoch, d/w is chipped, rubbed and creased along the edges, with a small closed tear to the front, but the cover illustration of a detail from Rippl-Ronai's 'Park with Nudes' is stunning.. London: Boosey & Co., 1905. Rare first edition (1905) [NOT A PRINT ON DEMAND] of this Catholic hymnal with words (English and Latin) and music. The cloth cover is worn in places, particularly the spine ends, corners and hinges (a little splitting), but the contents are sound and predominantly clean (some water damage to pages 32-3 with blue smudges, but all words and music are legible). Strain to the stitching at page 192, but binding is secure. Some page corners turned over at the top. Ink inscription to front free endpaper. Present is the black and white frontispiece showing the Co-author's ancestor, the Venerable (now Saint) Philip Howard, Earl of Arundel, in the Tower of London (1595).
