Collation: xi, [1 -blank], 276, 19, [1 blank], [12 -Ads] pp. Jackson M.D. was a Scottish physician-surgeon, reformer, and inspector-general of army hospitals. Jackson's first book was ‘A Treatise on the Fevers of Jamaica,’ 1791 (reprinted at Philadelphia in 1795, and in German at Leipzig in 1796), the result of his early experience as an assistant. He recommends the treatment of fevers by cold affusion, which was afterwards advocated by James Currie, and by himself in a special essay published at Edinburgh in 1808

Vol. 1 has some loss at tail of spine and along front board, more so near fore edge. There is general age soiling to boards. Vol. 2 has some rodent damage with loss along the lower fore-edge of the first 10+ leaves. There is occasional insect damage to the paper in both volumes that affects some plants, mostly small areas of leaves. Orginal German manuscript [ca. 1650] for printed text of JUNGENICKEL ANDREAS und MARTIN STIER Schlüssel zur Mechanica, Das ist: Gründliche Beschreibung der Vier Haupt Instrumenten der Machination, als deß Hebels, Getriebs, Schrauben, Kloben..(1661). Folio. Modern vellum on boards. The German text written in ink in fine hand contains numerous drawings of mechanical devices or principles. The water marks on the laid paper are from around 1650. The text is a discussion between an engineer (Ingenier) and a mechanic (Mechanico) presented as numbered couplets. The engineer poses a question to the mechanic who replies. The reply is complemented with illustration(s). We coud not find any record of a manuscript for this work by Andrea Jugenickels which was published posthumously. Flora pattern on paper; Wear to boards with some loss of paper along spines and covers; Some damp staining. Collation: [iv], 211 [with two un numbered pages between p.101-102],[1-blank],[32 &Index]pp. The unnumbered pages in the text have a note in Latin that appears to indicate the reason for the blank pages. The entire leaves forming the text were bound tightly. Reading all names or comments requires opening the book wider to see into the gutter. There are occasional words with corrections, some ink spots and minor foxing, mostly in center of leaves from pp. 130-140.Title page is written in black ink in neat block lettering with date at base.
