Peter James leads a number of academics in an intricate piece of scholarly detective work. Their subject: the Dark Ages, and specifically an examination of its 250 years of 'ghost history'. A serious reevaluation of the accepted chronology of the Dark Ages, and with it a host of challenges to traditional archaeological thinking.
An excellent copy. Pages are clean, bright and unmarked. No marks, creases or foxing. Cloth boards are tight and clean. DJ is unclipped and unmarked. The slightest brown spotting at the edge of the rear DJ flap (see photos). All now protected in professional clear book wrapper.

A nice copy of the first edition of this collection of James's thoughts on psychics, telepathy and spiritualism, subjects which very much excited his interest. Pages are very good: despite foxing to fore and top edge (see photos) pages themselves have no foxing or tanning and are remarkably good. Slight tanning on front pastedown and FEP but otherwise excellent. This is NOT an ex library book. No inscriptions to FEP, and no notes or underlining etc.Binding is tight. DJ is good: unclipped, a little pen mark near the price (see photo), and some general shelfwear, whiteness showing in small patches, and minor tears and small missing segment (especially at base of spine, see photos). 2 volumes. the 1870 6th edition. Jameson's excellent study of religious and legendary art. Beautiful leather bound and in VG condition pages clean and bright. Lovely gold edged text. See photos. Both Volumes have the book plate of Julia Jordan Dumaresq.

Janssen was a very well known Belgian physicist. Here he turns his attention to palaeopathology, the study of the diseases and malformations of the past, and in particular ofthose times for which their exists no literary sources. Janssens covers a huge range of suffering, from rickets and scurvy, arthritis, gout, dental disease, malaria, smallpox and others. The work is reviewed as having 'many quite original slants and provocative views'.
The book is in very good condition. Pages are remarkably clean, unmarked and uncreased. The only sign of its age is some light foxing on the top edge. Cloth boards clean and tight, endpapers are in perfect condition with the original mustard colour vibrant. Small neat previous owner's name at top of the endpaper. DJ is unclipped and clean, there is wear at extremities and some rubbing, but commensurate with age. All now protected in professional clear book wrapper. 170pp illus

Johnstone was head of the BBC's archaeology and history unit when he wrote this book, as part of a series edited by Magnus Magnusson. In this work he examines ships from the point of view of their excavations, looking at craft from a range of ages, the people who discovered their wrecks, and what we have learned from them.

This is the 1973 reprint, scarce especially in this condition. Inigo Jones' classic description of Stonehenge, a facsimile of the London 1655 edition, made from a copy at Glasgow University. Introduction by Graham Perry. Various drawings and fold out diagrams.A lovely copy. See photos, all of which are of the actual copy for sale here. Pages are essentially Fine, clean and bright with no markings. Fold out charts are complete and in first rate condition. Yellow board cover is in an excellent state, tight and with just the most minor edge wear but generally sharp and firm. A very small light pink mark exists under the title (potentially removable?). Original clear (removable) wrapper is present, with some natural crinkling but no more than age related. Also present (see photos) a nice original card stating which edition this is, and an original order note from the Arts Council book shop in London to presumably the original purchaser, both notes mint condition. An excellent copy of the first edition of Jones and Kropf's collection of Magyar folklore, along with analysis of the Magyars and their beliefs. A very good copy: pages are clean and unmarked with just some age wear here and there. No inscriptions. Not ex library. Covers are very good: just a few marks and age wear, and a little scuffing here and there. Spine has the slightest give but not cracking or hinge issues. Very nice. No DJ, as published.
