This book is a partial record of historic of some of the important architectural structures destroyed in Europe during World War II. There are 427 photographs (with some befor and after photos) that show the aftermath of the devastation that this conflict had on Europe's architectural heritage. The first 39 pages provide a descriptive list of the plates, arranged by country. This is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings and in the original publisher's blue cloth binding. The dust jacket has chips and tears, but is still serviceable.; B&W Photographs; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall .

Paris: Libraire Plon. Very Good-. Hardcover. Rectangular quarto in printed cloth covers. Delightful color illustrations by M. B. De Monvel. Daisy pattern cloth covers with gilt flowers on cover. Covers are darkened in places--appears to be from glue used in binding. A little edge wear to lower corner tips. With the exception of the discoloration to covers, this is a nice, tight copy, unmarked copy. The text is in French. ; Color Illustrations; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 48 pages .

Chicago: T. S. Denison. Very Good-. c. 1900. Softcover. This is an example of an inexpensive book sold in bookshops and railway stations in the latter part of the 1800's (these typically sold for 35 cents). Contains essays and poems on temperance, courage, scandal, etc. ("The High School Girl," "The Locomotive," "Mining Towns," "The Blue and Gray," etc.) Previous owner name on front wrapper. Nice victorian cover with an illustration of a Victorian woman. Yellow printed wrappers with brown spine and cover lettering. 12 pages of publisher's ads in rear. Tiny short tear to rear wrapper and two pages of ads at same location in rear. The date of publication is not given, but presumably about 1890-1900. ; 16mo 6" - 7" tall; 132 pages .

Grand Rapids: W. W. Hart's Steam Book and Commercial Printing House. Very Good+. 1883. First Edition. Softcover. This long narrative poem was written in Nirvana, Michigan and the author sought to provide "characters of high moral standing. " I presume this is also set in Michigan as reference is made in the preface to the statement "to found fiction in our own vicinity. " Nirvana was a lumbering town in Lake County, Michigan, but it no longer exists. This is the original edition released in tan printed wrappers in 1883. An uncommon item. The author traces the history of lightkeeping in the St. Lawrence River and the Gulf of St. Lawrence from the first light in 1803 until the last manned lighthouse in 1988. Original publishers glossy color pictorial paper covers with red spine lettering. Contains a bibliography in the rear and 35 illustrations, maps and tables. Published in cooperation with the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Canada Communication Group. This is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings, no previous owner names and no bookplates. The covers are in nice condtion with no creases, tears or chips. This is an uncommon history of Canadian lights in the St. Lawrence. This appears to be a first edition--there is no information to the contrary. Contains 4 b&w photographs which are stills from the original motion picture starring Jean Harlow. This is book adaptation (novelization) of the original movie script by W. R. Burnett. Contains an 18 page "Underworld Glossary" in the rear as well as two pages of publisher's ads. The book is in its original red cloth covers with black spine and cover lettering. There is a previous owner's bookplate on front end paper, else a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings (there are a couple of light spots to rear cover); this has obviously been well-cared for over its life. There is a little wear to the top edge of the spine, else, this is a clean, tight book with a previous owner's name on the first blank preliminary leaf. The dust jacket has edgewear, else it is in repectable condition. The dust jacket is now in a protective, removable, acetate cover. Especially interesting is a photo-illustrated section on sign language. Original red covers with gilt spine and cover lettering. A nice clean, tight and unmarked book. The dust jacket has an ink "H" on the front and some edgewear, else complete and presentable. This children's book covers robots of the future in a variety of ways: undersea, material handling, medicine, military, teaching, etc. Filled with illustrations, several to a page, there are short descriptions of the robots depicted. Contains an index in the rear. The publisher is identified as MacDonald, but the front matter also indicates that it was published for K-Mart, a retail chain store. Norwalk, CT: Easton Press. Near Fine. 1989. Hardcover. Lansing explores the creation of the first atomic bomb and the Manhattan Project that brought it to fruition. This is a full leather black binding with gilt spine and cover lettering and decorations. The Easton Press is known for its quality leather edtions. They feature raised spine bands with four decorated compartments, 22 k gold decorations and all edges are gilt. The end papers are silk moire, and the paper is archival quality with a silk bookmark sewn in. This is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings. The original "Notes from History" is loosely laid in, and there is no bookmark. Suitable for any collection or giving as a gift.
