A limited edition of this French novel from the 1700s, exploring erotic themes and ideas. Accompanied by a few slightly erotic illustrations. VERY GOOD book in GOOD slipcase. Minor soiling and toning to the wrappers. Slipcase faded and toned, with some fraying to the cloth along the extremities. Minor soiling and a few tiny stains.

A catalog to an exhibition of watercolors and drawings by American artist John La Farge, with critical essays looking at his Newport period, time in Japan, the South Seas, etc. GOOD+ condition. Minor toning, a bit heavier to the spine and rear cover. Some soiling to the rear cover.

Printed wraps, housed in a light blue clothbound folder in matching slipcase. 167 pp. Illustrations by d'Odile Brusseaux throughout. All text in French. A printing of some of this poet's most highly regarded work, including the dramatic allegory Debat de Folie et D'Amour, as well as poetry reflecting on themes of longing, passion and love, some of which contained somewhat frank expressions when originally written in the 1500s. Louise Labe was a poet during the French Renaissance, whose work is often praised for its progressive portrayal of women in that era. FINE book in a VERY GOOD case. No visible wear to the book. Slipcase and folder faded, rather heavy along the extremities and spine. Very light soiling and edgewear to the case.

A flier for a speaking event raising awareness of events in Bangla Desh, featuring Mansur Habib, a student from East Pakistan active in the Bangla Desh defense (from the flier). The event was held on September 24, unclear which year. Words are printed on a background of presumably Bangladeshi people. VERY GOOD condition. Minor toning and soiling.

A detailed history of Napoleon's Imperial Guard, examining its origins, training, tactics and history, as well as its role in the Napoleonic Wars and the many rules and regulations that governed the Guard, as well as differences in uniforms, medals, etc. Originating with handpicked soldiers by Napoleon, the Imperial Guard served as Napoleon's elite fighting force, earning honor and extra pay. GOOD+ condition. Moderate to heavy fading along the spine, with some fading to the covers. Light soiling and rubbing to the covers. Interior clean and solid.

A catalog to an exhibition of paintings by Gabriel Laderman, an American artist known for his embrace of Figurative painting in the 1960s, going against the prevalent trend of Abstract Expressionism. Lengthy critical essay precedes the section of paintings. VERY GOOD condition. Minor fading and scuffing to the covers. Some scuffing along the extremities.

An exhibition catalog for a 1994 exhibit at the Peabody Essex Museum, highlighting American folk art. This includes paintings, furniture, sculpture and other items. While primarily a photo catalog, a descriptive checklist precedes the illustrations, offering historical, biographical and critical commentary. GOOD condition, ex-museum library, with minor stamping to the interior and page edges. No other library markings present. Some curling to the covers along the fore edge. Minor scuffing and fading. Interior clean and solid.

Reminiscences written by Oscar Laighton on life on the Isles of Shoals off the coast of New Hampshire and Maine in the late 1800's and early 1900's. In GOOD condition. Uneven darkening and fading to the covers, with the spine rather sunned. Minor soiling. Extremities with minor bumping and scuffing. Spine faded. Several ownership signatures on the first endpaper. A few (very few) amendments to the text, in pencil, throughout.

Written by Oscar Laighton, brother of Celia Thaxter and resident of the Isles of Shoals (as well as Kittery, etc.). With photos and illustrations of the islands. GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy spotting and staining to the covers, with some soiling and general toning. Lower front corner creased. Minor spotting to the first endpaper.

A visual history of the Allied fight against U-Boats in World War II, providing photos of planes, submarines (U-boats) and other subjects, with explanatory and historical commentary that documents the war in the Atlantic. This includes British operations, operations off Iceland, the Bay of Biscay, off the coast of the Americas, etc. NEAR FINE with a hint of edgewear.

With two photo plates and several illustrations throughout, including a few fold out. A report on the findings of archaeological excavations conducted at the Oxford Dominican Priory from 1961-1975, providing a detailed analysis of the findings, as well as presenting historical context with the findings. GOOD condition. Some staining to the front wrap, with general uneven toning, some soiling and creasing. Extremities scuffed, creased and curled. Interior clean and solid.

Red line of staining to the lower front cover, perhaps from a rectangular object (book) being laid on. Heavy uneven browning and staining to the covers, mostly along the extremities. Some soiling. Extremities scuffed. Text block shaken but intact. Paper browned, with some foxing to the first and last pages. A few pages creased.

Devoted to peace (as the title indicates), this issue of the journal provides lengthy commentary on the then fresh in the news Cuban Missile Crisis. Included is a tally for President Kennedy versus Krushchev, Castro and the peace movement, grading Kennedy a scorn-filled A for his role in bringing the world closer to war. A several page account of peace rallies and demonstrations is provided, with quotes from various speakers, including Bayard Rustin and Dagmar Wilson. Undertaken by Myrtle Lane (editor of Peace Concern), Vermont News was issued as a state newsletter devoted to events and groups devoted to the cause of peace. This issue contains a list of groups organized by city or region, including Woodstock, Burlington, Bennington, etc., as well as discussing in brief groups such as the Fellowship of Reconciliation, Peace Action Center and the Vermont committee of the national organization General Strike for Peace. GOOD condition, seemingly ex-institution, with date stamp and notations present. Horizontal fold crease present. General toning, with minor curling and creasing at the corners. Name correction/addition in ink on page 2.

A hint of dampstaining to the foot of the spine of the book. Light fading and edgewear. Light toning in the interior.

Gilt banding and compartments on the spine and covers. 584 pp. Black and white illustrations and plates throughout. All text in French. A biography and study of the life and art of Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, a French Neoclassical painter known for his portraits using distorted space and form that served as a link to modern painting (Wikipedia). GOOD condition. Heavy scuffing and some gouging to the leather corners and along the spine. Minor darkening and fading. Light soiling. 2 plates (at pages 160 and 288) were detached and have been tipped in using archival glue. Text block cracked at those locations, with several gatherings of pages feeling somewhat loose, but still intact, in the binding. Foxing present along the page edges.

A detailed guide to various aspects of running a dairy farm, including lengthy sections on producing butter, cheese, curd, milk and cream, as well as sections devoted to the selecting and care of cows, with much technical information given (both in producing butter, etc. and tending to the cows). GOOD condition. Uneven fading and minor soiling to the covers. A few small areas of spotting and staining. Two small holes in the cloth at the center front hinge, with some fraying and scuffing along the extremities. Owner's stamp and signature present in the interior. Text block toned.
