Description:
London: Martin Secker, (1923). First edition, first printing. Published in the UK a year after the first US edition. This is a very good copy. The dust wrapper is nicked at the corners, with a mild loss at the top of the spine. It is an otherwise bright copy, showing Martin Secker's list on the rear panel. There is a small previous owner's signature on the front pastedown, concealed by the front flap. The text blocks are markedly clean, but with some marks. The internals are also generally clean, with slight spotting in places. The cream label, with red lettering, is bright on the deep red publisher's boards. This is a very good copy of an increasingly scarce title. Two profound essays initially intended as a response to psychoanalytic criticism of his novel Sons and Lovers, these works progressed into a counterproposal to the Freudian psychoanalytic theory of the unconscious and the incest motive.
