New York: The Dial Press, 1966. RARE ADVANCE COPY in the Dust Jacket. Bound Galleys in the Dust Jacket. Very good/very good. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE ADVANCE COPY (likely prepared for the Publisher's in-house review and without any Table of Contents) consisting of what appear to be trimmed signatures (perhaps the final Galleys) bolted together and wearing what appears to be the final dust jacket. The book (which contains a collection of Mailer's journalistic and other pieces) shows some soiling and staining to the page block's top edge and some modest stain marking to the top margin of the first sixty (60) or so pages. The dust jacket shows wear holes above the bolts and some general tearing and wear as well as tide marking to the front panel. We never have seen another copy in this format and it certainly was printed ahead of any copies sent out for review. A RARE ADVANCE COPY.

A Very Good + to Near Fine copy of the first edition, first printing, being copy 784 of 1100 copies issued in this Limited Edition (light corner rubbing) in the Publisher's original slipcase (which shows some marking, primarily to the slipcase verso) with the book being bound in in green quarter leather with the spine and front board lettered and decorated in gilt and the closed page block's top edge in gilt as well, housed in a coordinating green cloth slipcase. The book (which shows a gift presentation to the half-title] is copiously illustrated with both black and white illustrations and twelve color plates. This Anthology presents numerous writings articles about numerous aspects of shooting game birds and rabbits. A Very Good + copy of the first edition, first printing, in the Publisher's original green cloth (some rubbing to the spine ends and board corners, faint splash mark to the front board seen when held at an angle to the light) with a prior owner's signature and contemporary date of "4.20.1881" to the title page's upper margin; a work in which Miller excoriated whites for their treatment of Indians. A Very Good + copy and a better copy than we typically see.

A Very Good RARE Wrappered copy of the first edition, first printing, in the Publisher's original red wrappers housed in a bespoke case. The front wrapper shows a split to the upper portion thereof measuring about two inches. [A small slip pasted-in at the front free endpaper mentions that a letter comes with the book, but that letter was removed before we acquired the book.]  QUITE SCARCE INDEED. QUITE SCARCE INDEED.

A Fine copy of the first UK edition, first printing (showing some modest discoloration on the title page and some modest rubbing to the spine ends and leading board corners) in a Fine example of the dust jacket, being a tight and unread copy wearing its RARE original Glassine dust jacket and being richly illustrated within. The closed page block's top edge is in gilt. In the book, Moore discusses English, Dutch, Flemish, Austrian & French period furniture pieces, and their influence on furniture design. The volume contains 112 plates and illustrations as well as a helpful Index. Copies in a condition as nice as is this one are SCARCE.

[NOTE: THIS COPY IS NOT PART OF, OR INCLUDED IN, ANY DISCOUNT SALE.] A SCARCE TO RARE APPARENT ASSOCIATION COPY of this famed work on the 1588 encounter of the English Navy with the Spanish Armada, a Spanish fleet that sailed from Lisbon in late May 1588. The Armada was commanded by the Duke of Medina Sidonia, an aristocrat appointed by Philip II of Spain in spite of his having no previous naval experience. His orders were to sail up the English Channel, link up with the Duke of Parma in Flanders, and escort an invasion force that would land in England and overthrow Elizabeth I. Its purpose was to reinstate Catholicism in England, end support for the Dutch Republic, and prevent attacks by English and Dutch privateers against Spanish interests in the Americas. An about Very Good or better copy of the first edition, first printing, bound in full green leather with the spine and both boards decoratively lined in gilt and the buttressed spine also decoratively lined, lettered, and dated in gilt. All three visible closed page block edges are in gilt as well. The leading board corners and spine corners are also rubbed and the joints show wear and signs of use. The front pastedown is graced with a small and elegant bookplate that, in part, reads "OTIUM SINE LITERIS MORS EST" [which means "leisure without literature is death"]. The volume contains forty-six (46) inserted plates with a tissue guard to most of them. There the half-title shows some staining and there also are scattered stains apparently caused by the presence of a plate and/or tissue guard, and several of the tissue-guards show a closed tear.
