Volume 3 lacks original endpapers; wear to spine extremities (some chipping) and exterior hinges (spines may have been detached and reglued). Front interior hinge of volume 3 split; frontspiece, which may have been added during repairs as another copy of volume 3 lacks it, is torn and repaired with tape.

First Edition 7 1/2 x 5 1/8 inches, [viii], 310 pages, blue cloth lettered in silver on upper cover and spine, Frontispiece portrait not included in pagination. Review copy, with publisher's review sticker giving publication date of September 17, 1936 on front endpaper. The pencil notations in places comment on word choices, suggesting that a reviewer made them.

BAL 13658. Two volumes. 8-page publisher's catalogue bound at end of volume II. The bindings, although both are brown publisher's cloth, do not match. Volume I is in Blanck's TZ cloth, with orange-yellow coated endpapers, whereas Volume II is in A cloth with yellow coated endpapers.
