London: Harper Collins, 1999. First edition. Hardback. Very Good/Very Good. Harper Collins, London, 1999. First edition. Book condition: very good. Only very slight wera to boards and a little toning to paper. Dust jacket: very good. Unclipped and with a slight amount of edgewear and a publisher's promotional sticker to front. Another tale of Jack Aubrey and Stepehn Maturin. Aubrey has reached the top of the Captain's list and the odds against his promotion to flag rank are lengthening. On the other hand, his old shipmate Maturin has lost none of his spark. Description:
London : Faber & Faber, 2012. First edition, first impression. Hardback. [i - vi], vii - x, [1 - 2], 3 - 339pp. Dust jacket in a protective sleeve. The publication of Edna O'Brien's memoir was a major literary event. O'Brien was born in Ireland in 1930, and her brilliant debut novel, "The Country Girls" was banned there on its publication in 1960. Since then she has created a body of work which bears comparison with the very best writing of the twentieth century. In "Country Girl" we come face to face with a life of high drama and contemplation. And along the way there are encounters with Hollywood giants, pop stars and literary titans - all of whom lend this life, so gorgeously, sometimes painfully remembered here, a terrible poignancy. In prose which sparkles with the effortless gifts of a master, Edna O'Brien has recast her life with the imaginative insight of a poet. This is a book of unfathomable depth and honesty. Book in near fine condition. Very… Read More

Description:
London: Faber & Faber, 2019. First edition, 2019. Hardback. 230pp. Dust jacket in a protective sleeve. Captured, abducted and married into Boko Haram, the narrator of this story witnesses and suffers the horrors of a community of men governed by a brutal code of violence. Barely more than a girl herself, she must learn how to survive as a woman with a child of her own. Just as the world around her seems consumed by madness, bound for hell, she is offered an escape of sorts - but only into another landscape of trials and terrors amidst the unforgiving wilds of north-eastern Nigeria, through the forest and beyond; a place where traumas are met with the blinkered judgement of a society in denial. How do we love in a world that has lost its moorings? How can we comprehend the barbarism of our enemies, and learn forgiveness? Edna O'Brien's novel pierces to the heart of these questions. Book in fine condition, Dust jacket fine and unclipped.

Book condition: near fine - just a little light tanning to the text block edges. Dust jacket condition: very good. A little light creasing along the edges. Top edge not gilt and no tissue guards to the illustrations. In the chronological biography of Ida Rentoul Outhwaite compiled by Michael Organ it is speculated that only 600 true de-luxe editions were bound and signed and that this was possibly due to lower than expected sales and led to a further 400 copies being bound more cheaply in pale blue covers and without the tissue guards.
