Large, detailed, attractive folding map, 24 1/2" x 31 1/2", the "Union Pacific System Map of Rocky Mountain National (Estes) Park Denver Mountain Parks", with large UP emblem on lower corner. Covers moderately soiled & with some small blotches on the lower margin. Near vg. Scarce & desirable. ca 1923.

It is one of the more common railroad view books, but this copy long in my collection is a nearly fine copy with minor wear & a couple of red spots on & near the upper edge of the front cover. Owner's name in light pencil on t-p.

ALSO LAID IN, a 1915 engraved stock certificate, canceled (1917), of ROUND MOUNTAIN MINING COMPANY, Goldfield, Nevada (signed, and with certificate information form still attached to left side of the certificate. A very scarce combination of items.

One of the most important journals ever published on the emigration to the Oregon Country in mid-century. Shortly afterwards, Palmer was appointed Supt. of Indians for Oregon, & later became active in Oregon politics. This an association copy with the following inscription on the ffep: "Mrs. Hannah Shaw - Hermosa Beach, Cal - April 12th 1922 - The Author, 'Joel Palmer' - is my Uncle, my - Mother's brother." This edition with the Notes, Introduction, & Index by Thwaites regards it a choice item, "the most complete description of the Oregon Trail that we now possess." Matthes agrees. Jourdanton TX: Privately published, Village Printer, 1970. First Edition. Soft cover. Collectible Near Fine. 1st printing. Pictorial wraps. 42pp. Illustrated with a couple of simple drawings. Short bibliography. Signed "Best wishes" by Parker. Parker, of Pleasanton, Texas, writes in an honest style about the subject. He relates that western author Jack Thorp was a friend and on one visit to Thorp in Santa Fe, J. Frank Dobie dropped by. Some original material here probably, but the author mainly draw off classic sources such as Dobie, Walter Prescott Webb, and Charlie Russell. Not a particularly scarce book, but a nice one that should be in any cowman or cowwoman's library. Near fine.
