From the library of the Australian artist Brian Seidel, signed an inscribed to him from the artist Jeffrey Smart 'Brian, my only old friend who bought the ritzy edition - with my compliments and love, Jeffrey', further signed and inscribed by the author Peter Quartermaine 'For Brian, Thanks for happy days in Marvellous Melbourne - Peter July, 1988', and with Brian Seidel's Ex Libris collection stamp.

Quilty uses licks of luscious paint to conjure his subjects which include his beloved LJ Torana, his ‘wasted’ mates, his son Joe and more recently himself. From a friend of your brother Don. 14.6.64 Sincerely, Tom Quilty'; on the page facing the half-title (the first blank) is another inscription, from Don Macdonald to his brother Ross, congratulating him on his 60th birthday; pp 119, with several b/w photographic plates, including a portrait of Quilty beside which Don Macdonald has written in the margin 'A friend of mine for many years ...
