A saterical echange of letters supposedly from the AMerican War of Independce showing how the war would have been conducted by "today's bureaucratic government" (and probably lost) would be "Fine" except for a small stain on the front cover.

A previous owner took the flaps from the dust jacket and inserted them between the endpapers

Philadelphia: Arnold and Company, 1886. Brown cloth with black type and illustration. Good. Similar in style and coverage to Mrs. Rombauer's (St. Louis) cookbook but with many household hints (e.g. What to Save and How to Use it) and blank pages for additional recipes. Very interesting to anyone who cares about 19th-century cookery. The main problem with this copy is that the cover is largely detached from the book and has tears along the edge of the spine. The pages, except the frontispiec and title, are all still attached properly to each other.

THe stories include the story of Sarah Brown (of the Saslvation Army), and other characters on which the hit musical "Guys and Dolls" is based . SIx of the stories not previously published in book form. Although ex-library, it belonged to a small collection at a senior-living center and was not widely irculated. The bright dust jacket shows color cartoons of the characters such as Sarah BRown, Miss Adelaide, Nathan Detroit, Harry the Horse, and Big Julie.

A history of the period after 1859 when Darwin's ideas conflicted with and eventually won over the Victorian beliefs of that time.
