Abraham Reisen was a "Yiddish Poet, short- story writer, playwright and editor. He was born in Russia, travelled to Minsk, Warsaw, Krakow, and Berlin - until he came to New York in 1914.His poetry, "while having an understated romanticism and melancholy irony, a proportion of his work criticizes the poverty and social problems of the day" (Dan Wyman, 2012).Each page has a poem framed by modernist color illustrations (usually one or two colors) by various artists in brown, yellow, orange-red, green and black.The pictorial boards of the cover have age-darkened light brown stains but the illustration "comes through".
