Description:
Winchester: D. Nutt [& Ackermann], 1846. Book. Good. Hardcover. First Edition. Folio. The first work (Memorials) with tinted lithographic title page, letterpess dedication, 19 lithographic plates each with an accompanying leaf of letterpress; 1 engraved plate of seals. The second work (History of Winchester College pub. Ackermann) consists of a letterpress title page followed by 56 pages of letterpress text, but without the plates to this work. Our research suggests that the "Memorials" was issued in 8 parts during 1846 each presumably with a total of 24 litho plates, so 4 plates were not bound in. (it is clear from the binding that no plates have been removed from the book). A fine contemporary binding of sage green morocco with elaborate gilt work to the boards, gilt dentelles and wide gilt vine-leaf decorated turn-ins; rebacked to style with five raised bands. All edges gilt, marbled end papers. Contents good and tight, some foxing and spotting, more pronounced to early and later…
