This work is the first signed limited edition of Arthur Rackham's illustrated edition of Barham's Ingoldsby Legends. It was originally published in 1898, however for 1907 it was revised, so that "greater prominence could be given to the illustrations by better and larger… Read More

Description:
London - Summer Fashions for 1836.
A large aquatint with bright contemporary hand-colouring, beautifully mounted, framed and glazed, ready for presentation, 435 x 590 mm. Published by Benjamin Read (London and Broad Way, New York), 1836.
A truly stunning print, in fine condition, which would enhance the appearance of any room.
Benjamin Read was a professional tailor and demonstrated savvy business acumen by creating high quality prints of his stock, enabling the effective promotion of his business. Read's Regency fashion prints were in essence a highly successful advertisement, and by setting his subjects in fashionable venues, in this case the Colosseum in Regent's Park, he was able to nurture the idea of an association between his tailoring and high society.
According to Ralph Hyde, Read was initially inspired by a yearly print created by George Cruikshank, demonstrating the greatest offences against fashion at the time. Read first commissioned George Cruikshank's brother, Robert Cruikshank, however… Read More

Description:
First Edition. 8vo., Publisher's blue cloth, spine lettered in black, dust jacket; priced at 5 shillings, a small Foyles Bookseller's sticker to the front pastedown, pp. 219; plus 24 pp. of Publisher's ads. Published by Constable (London), 1934.
Expert retouches and restorations to spine, upper edge, and joints, a very slight shelf lean, three tiny tears to page edges of the endpapers and half title page. An excellent and sharp example. Near fine.
"Voyage in the Dark is something more terrible, more beautiful and more fiercely pitiful than any Jean Rhys has yet written. The book describes eighteen months in the life of a chorus girl - eighteen months during which she knows squalor, luxury, love, happiness, misery and, at the end, desperate pain. Told in the first person, the story of the struggles, forlorn gaiety and weary courage of Anna Morgan was the almost unbearable poignancy of truth unflinchingly described. The effect of being right inside the mind of this lonely girl is heightened by the… Read More
