Description:
(Caldwell, ID): Privately Printed. Fine. 1960. Limited Edition. Hardcover. No. 9 of 100 copies. Inscribed by the author on front endpaper: "To Donald H. McLaughlin, with esteem and best wishes, Nahum Sabsay, June 12, 1960." 346pp.; 8vo; gray cloth, spine lettered in gilt; in plain mylar wrap, as issued. Scarce first edition of Sabsay's dramatic first person account of his years as a soldier at the front, fighting Germans and Austrians, and ultimately the Communist Red Army. To escape the chaos Sabsay fled eastward across Siberia. After arriving in the U.S. In 1918, he would go on to study mining engineering at Harvard and moved to California where he worked as a tool and die maker while perfecting his English and writing. Sabsay died in 1965. Donald H. McLaughlin, to whom the book is inscribed, was an eminent mining engineer and had a life long association with the University of California at Berkeley. .

Description:
Miami Beach: Ruth & Marvin Sackner. 1980. Softcover. Xerox of typed pages; Concrete 214pp., Russian 48pp., printed on one side; 4to; bound in black fabrikoid binder with hand written paper label taped onto spine. First sheet is a decorated cover letter; both sections with title page and portrait photograph of the Sackners. Cover letter states: June 26, 1980; ENCLOSED FIND THE LISTING OF MY ARCHIVE OF CONCRETE AND VISUAL POETRY FOR YOUR INFORMATION, SINCERELY, MARVIN A. SACKNER, M.D.; MAS:amp; ENCLOSURE. It is undetermined as to whether any other personally bound 'listings' were distributed, if any. We are aware of a scarce 1986 catalog in wrappers, which doesn't appear to contain the Russian avant-garde collection. Founded by Ruth and Marvin Sackner in 1979 in Miami Beach, Florida, the Sackner Archive currently holds the largest collection of concrete and visual poetry in the world, now housed at the University of Iowa Libraries Special Collections. .
