Sherman, Harold M. Tahara in the Land of Yucatan. (New York: Goldsmith Publishing, 1933), Volume 4 of a 4 volume series. Likely a first edition.
12mo. 246 pages plus 4 pages advertisements. Hardcover in yellow cloth-covered board stamped in black on both front cover and spine. Dust jacket present and brightly printed in primary and secondary colors. DJ Illustrated by "Gretta" who also illustrated many early Hardy Boys mysteries.
Condition: Good plus. Price clipped DJ is bright with minor sunning to spine, showing some edge wear. Book is typical for its age, with toning to paper and some discoloration to the spine. Paper remains flexible in spite of its wood pulp origin. Spine is creased. 1934 Christmas inscription on FFE. DJ has been placed in a Brodart for protection.

Duodecimo. xviii, 390 pages plus 6 pages adv. Illus w/ line drawings and steel engravings. Hardbound. Brown cloth-covered boards stamped in blind and gilt.
Condition: VG. Shows wear, as expected of a book of this nature but minor as compared with most copies. Front lower corner is bumped and shows wear-through. Hinges show wear but continue to perform well. Bookplate on front pastedown, with signs of a previous bookplate removal. The gathering beginning on page 239 through 268 is beginning to separate from the binding, but is still attached.
Provenance: Bookplate from the library of Thomas Townsend Taber, a prolific author and historian of railroads.

Quarto, 269 pages. 13 plates, all present, and numerous in-text illustrations.
Bound in green boards, front board stamped with a double rule frame in blind, Spine stamped in gilt with a rule top and bottom. Book shows slight lean to left.
John Smart (1907-1986) was on the staff of the Natural History Museum in London at the time of publication. Karl Jordan (1861-1959) was an entomologist working at the Walter Rothschild Zoological Museum in Tring, Hertfordshire, England.

Condition: This is a complicated book, condition-wise. Ex-Library from the Carnegie Library of Pennsylvania State College (now Penn State University (PSU)). Calf binding had the spine shellac-ed, probably to slow the red rot that appears at the hinges – which despite the red rot seems to be intact. The spine, however, has serious damage caused by the shellac and moderate wear as a publicly accessible book in a university library setting. Octavo. i. Dedication, ii-iii. Quote from John Donne, iv. Blank. 1-507 Text. Hardcover bound in black cloth-covered boards stamped with author's signature on front cover in gilt and Gilt red and white on spine. DJ included and is unclipped. Top edge stained red.
Condition: VG with dog-ear on page 33-34 and small spot on fore-edge. DJ has a small tear at hinge on bottom, repaired with transparent tape by a previous owner. DJ shows some minor color loss at hinge. Previous owner's name on FFE as well as some staining from tape contact. Slight discoloration of DJ at edges of rear flyleaf where not in contact with text-block.
