Description:
U.S. Government Printing Office. Poster. Offset lithograph. 28" x 22".

This original World War II-era poster shows a female worker holding folded $25 war bonds and an envelope. Written above her head is the slogan "This is my fight too!" The woman wears a slogan button that resonates with the slogan sign hanging above the paymaster window behind her, and the text along the bottom encourages the purchase of war bonds. Even though she is wearing her work uniform and covered in oil or some other work-related residue, her coiffed hair and colored lips ensure that she appears every bit a woman. In this way, the poster demonstrates how women could contribute to the war effort without sacrificing their femininity, a somewhat mixed signal that speaks to cultural dynamics in the United States in the 1940s. The poster is in excellent condition and is a fascinating document of the domestic front of World War II.
