Editions Gallimard originally published this book in France in 1964 as Situations 4. CONDITION: Near Fine with some rubbing to the cloth panels and spine ends along with a bit of soiling to the spine. Internally, clean, bright, and unmarked. The unclipped dust jacket has light edge wear and some soiling to the spine and lower panel.

[London]: The Pamphleteer [A.J. Valpy], 1821. Scarce pamphlet featuring five letters by Jean Baptiste Say in response to "Principles of Political Economy" by Robert Thomas Malthus. Say (1767-1832) was a giant in free-market economics and wrote these letters criticizing the economic views of Malthus (1766-1834), whose "Principles of Political Economy" appeared in 1820.
Malthus, of course, was probably better known for his controversial earlier work, "An Essay on the Principles of Population," in which he predicted that population growth would outstrip global food production, leading to mass starvation and death. In terms of economics, their disagreements centered on the causes of depressions. Both men wrote in the wake of the depression and high unemployment that followed the Napoleonic Wars (hence the reference to "general stagnation of commerce" in the title of Say's collection of letters). Based on research and interviews by Lawrence Schiller and Norman Mailer, the book presents a psychological portrait of FBI agent Robert P. Hanssen, who sold classified information to the KGB and its successor organization over more than 20 years. Hanssen was captured in 2001 and is serving multiple life sentences in a Colorado prison. The book is written as a novel, with imagined dialogue. Schiller and Mailer were unable to interview Hanssen, who was already a guest of U.S. taxpayers. SIGNED by James Schuyler and Fairfield Porter on the limitation page of this collection, which features poems by Schuyler and illustrations by Porter (including the cover). This is letter "P" of only 26 lettered copies, signed by both men, from a total edition of 300.
This volume is a terrific collaboration between two key members of the New York School literary and art scene, who lived together from 1961 to 1973. In 1980, Schuyler won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for "The Morning of the Poem."
SCARCE signed by author and illustrator.
CONDITION: A fresh copy with light soiling and a few indents to wrappers and rusting of staples. A beautiful, Near Fine copy.

The recipient, Theodore Weiss (1916-2003), was a poet, literary critic, and professor at Princeton University. A typewritten letter from Schwartz to Weiss is laid in. This collection contains poems that originally appeared in Objects of Thought, Attempts at Speech (Gnosis Press, 1990) and in Exiles-Ends (Red Dust Press, 1990). The poems appear in the original English with side-by-side translation into Chinese by Dr. I-Min Hao. INSCRIBED by the author on the front end paper to Kathryn Cravens, a broadcast journalist (spelled here as "Kathrin"). Paul Schwarz was the German consul general in New York, resigning when Hitler came to power in 1933. Full of chatty details about German Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop as well as an analysis of the rise of Hitler and his henchmen. Laid in is an envelope addressed to Kathryn Cravens. It contains a post card featuring a caricature of Schwarz (along with his written greetings) as well as a newspaper clipping. Cravens's bookplate, originally glued to the front pastedown, is loose. Gilt lettering to spine.A complete set of 100 stereoviews of Switzerland featuring black-and-white photos of the late 1890s and early 1900s. Each has a short description in English on the recto; the versos have short descriptions in English, French, German, Italian, Swedish, and Russian. (Some versos have longer, more extensive descriptions in English.) The stereoviews are housed in the publishers' original brown cloth case, which is designed to look like a two-volume book set. A complete set full of charming views of Switzerland. CONDITION: The vast majority of stereoviews are clear and sharp. A bit of fading to a handful of views. The case shows modest wear, with some fading to the gilt lettering on the spine. Overall, a Very Good or better set.

With introductory texts by Michel Seuphor in French and English and Will Grohmann in German. There's also a biographical and bibliographical note in the three languages, followed by more than 40 black-and-white plates.While Seuphor has signed some copies of this book, signed copies by Arp himself are uncommon. SCARCE SIGNED. CONDITION: Some soiling and chips to the original glassine, internally clean, bright, and unmarked. A Very Good or better copy.

George Bernard Shaw's 1891 essay on the plays of Henrik Ibsen, presented here with a new preface for this edition as well an analysis of plays that Ibsen wrote after 1891. The book is an important expression of Shaw's theories about theatre in which he contrasts Ibsen's vibrant social realism with a more formal (and stagnant) Victorian theatre. A lovely, collectible copy in the scarce dust jacket.
CONDITION: Modest rubbing to boards, page edges lightly toned, small "First Edition" stamp on front paste down, some dusting to top edge, numerous pages unopened, small closed tear to page xix. The dust jacket is darkened along the spine and has a few small chips. Overall, a Very Good or better copy.
