This copy is unbound and untrimmed in 19 signatures laid into printed wrapper and all housed in a sturdy slipcase. A remarkable publication on indigenous textiles from South America with a section of plates at the end with 280 black and white reproductions; another 9 full color plates are scattered throughout the illustrations and text. A very uncommon state of this book. Slipcase is lightly rubbed at the edges. A very nice copy. Text in Spanish.

Full Leather. 12mo. 372pp. A very uncommon First Edition of Thomas’s autobiography later reprinted with some omissions in 1861 under a slightly different title; full bound in contemporary sheep with spine label and simple fillets on the spine; moderate to heavy foxing/toning throughout; contemporary owner names on the endpapers and title page; a relatively nice copy of this uncommon autobiography. Thomas, known as the “White Pilgrim” was an itinerant preacher, born in North Carolina who traveled extensively in Virginia and as a young preacher. Howes describes him as “A frontier gospel ranter who vied with Lorenzo Dow in wander lust and eccentricity. In two years he traveled 7000 miles through Tenn., Ky. and Ohio.” Thomas died of small pox in New Jersey in 1835. Sabin 95428, Howes T176, Shaw & Shoemaker 42271.
