Description:
If you have read Reay Tannahill's Food in History, you won't be disappointed with this effort. Her probing into the history of sex as seen by cultures, governments, religions, and individuals is thought provoking. As the reader engages the written word and sometimes the illustrations, questions arise as to why certain sexual practices and ideas have been attacked. Some concerns about health problems for example, may be well founded, but others seem to be common sense solutions to being human. There has always been a dividing line between men and women when it comes to sexual mores and unfortunately, throughout history women have been blamed fo societal issues that man cause. It is a long book but an intriging read.

Description:
"Returning Home After 28 Years," what would author Thoi Tilley-Trautman find in once war-torn Vietnam? Having been sent to America for safety by her parents while the war raged, the author had been cut off from any contact with her homeland after the Viet Cong victory. But a 1994 decision by the Vietnamese government opened the door to U.S. visitors and the door to the author's past. Was her father still alive? If so, how could she find him? Those who had fought alongside the Americans had changed their identifies to avoid reprisal. What of her adopted sister Hanh? How much of the new Vietnam would obscure the past? "Returning Home After 28 Years" is a moving true story of a woman's search for her past.

For some 35 years, he's been painting scenes from the contemporary cowboy's way of life to record this chapter of American history. Those traveling north of Highway 89 are treated to Owen's images as he captures a moment from Babbitt Ranches. The scene is a triptych, three separate paintings that fit together to make one large image and can be seen on a billboard about 35 miles north of Flagstaff. "It is a painting of the Cowboys at noon catching fresh horses to finish the day. The Cowboys will get off their horses, throw each other their ropes and make a rope corral that they bring their remuda into," he says. Owen visits Babbitt Ranches six to eight times a year, has ridden with the cowboys and has…

"The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain is a popular 1876 novel about a young boy growing up in the antebellum South. The story is set in the town of "St Petersburg", inspired by Hannibal, Missouri, where Mark Twain grew up. In the story's introduction, Twain notes: Most of the adventures recorded in this book really occurred; one or two were experiences of my own, the rest those of boys who were schoolmates of mine. Huck Finn is drawn from life; Tom Sawyer also, but not from an individualâ€"he is a combination of the characteristics of three boys whom I knew, and therefore belongs to the composite order of architecture
