Invitations, seating charts and menus for formal diplomatic dinners assembled by Samuel Thayer who was appointed Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Netherlands by President Benjamin Harrison. Contents include a lifetime of communications with various nobility and events that Thayer attended. The contents are too extensive to fully describe in detail. "Samuel R. Thayer" gilt embossed front cover. The album pages are brittle and are crumbling, binding is loose as seen in close up image, but there is a wealth of ephemeral items that concern the political and social life of an American diplomat in the late 19th century. A set of (41) albumen photographs dated from 1872 of various sculptures in the collection of the British Museum including Egyptian Antiquities, Assyrian Antiquities, Etruscan and Roman. Mounted one per page. Tones generally very good - exceptional. Many bearing the blind-stamp of "W. A. Mansell." Plates are all numbered and are in nice clean condition. Cover worn and soiled as seen in images, contents fine. Binding intact. Handwritten inscription in ink on inside cover.

Includes splendid rich views of Downton San Francisco (14), a harbor view, an aerial view, and landscapes of Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Mt. Shasta, Yellowstone, Lake Tahoe, Mission San Miguel, Mariposa Grove. Some scattered foxing mostly effecting the white borders. Light wear to covers. (3) page printed introduction promoting the exposition to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal. H. C. TIBBITS publisher. The first plate somewhat faded but the following views are rich and clean. Each image has a title and description on the white border. 9 ½" x 12" x 1", 55 pages.
