A Hebrew grammar with Latin text by Johann Danz, German theologian and Hebraicist. 5th edition, 12mo, vellum covered boards. 361 pp plus approximately 60 pages of indices. Danz was Professor of Oriental languages at the University of Jena. He was considered by contemporaries to be among the greatest of Hebrew scholars and his several works on Hebrew grammarremained standard works for nearly a hundred years. (Jewish Encyclopedia).
CONDITION: Good: a clean, tight copy overall but age-toned, light-to-moderate foxing throughout. Title hand-written on spine in black ink, surface wear and several small stains and nicks to cover; rear end paper scuffed [See photos].

Signed presentation copy from the author to the famous actor/producer Arnold Daly, of one of her most successful plays. Poet/librettist George Turner Phelps has used the covers, pastedowns and end sheets to write a long letter to Daly urging him to produce the play with Dorothy Donnelly, who played opposite Daly in Shaw's Candida. An added note by Peabody on the rear flyleaf approves.
Condition: Fair. A clean, tight copy internally; moderate wear to covers, title label on spine rubbed, end papers toned. But who cares -- it's a $15 book enhanced immeasurably by the extras.
Peabody was an American poet and dramatist. The Stratford-on-Avon prize went to her in 1909 for her drama The Piper, which was produced in England in 1910; and in America at in 1911. The article "An Arabic Pompeii [Medina Azzahra] documents part of a trip by the correspondents to Spain to trace the roots of Arabic art and architecture for a proposed book. While there, they heard rumors of the excavation of an early Arabic site. This site and its contents were kept secret by the Spanish government, and the writers of this journal detail how they stumbled upon the site, the problems they had in visiting, and the denial of permission to photograph anything in the area. The correspondents make oblique references to the possibility that some of the treasures will never get much farther than the Spanish officials responsible for the excavation.

Paris: Editions Roger DaCosta. 1972. Facsimile edition of Bidloo's noted atlas of human anatomy first published in Amsterdam in 1685. Large 4to (11"x16"), bound in bu rgundy leatherette, marbled end-papers, all edges gilt. No. 411 of 2000 copies printed. A bit of rubbing at top and bottom of sp ine, otherwise fine. The atlas is illustrated with 105 plates by Gerard de Lairesse, showing the human figure both in living at titudes and as dissected cadavers. The book was later plagiarized by English surgeon William Cowper for his Anatomy of the Humane Bodies (1698), which gave no credit to either Bidloo or de Laires se. This led to a number of vitriolic exchanges between Bidloo an d Cowper, including several pamphlets published in each anatomist 's defense. William III, Dutch stadholder and king of England, asked Bidloo to become his personal physician in 1695. The king died in his arms on 8 March 1702. .
