Some pale spotting to front edge. Internally clean. A Very Good copy.

Good. Darkening and marks to covers (mostly to back), dulling to spine, light rubbing to edges. Binding sound. Occasional brown spots or handling marks to margins, a few pages have dark stain to lower margins, closed edges lightly browned, 1929 gift inscription to flyleaf. A Very Good copy.

The life of Monsignor Justin de Jacobis, a Christian monk in Abyssinia who lived from 1800 to 1860 and who was revered for his piety. Hand cut page edges. With 19 line drawings and b&w photos in plates, and a folding map. Fair condition: Covers marked and stained with abraded corners. Folding map loose with tape repairs (browned tape); contents page is also loose. Rest of binding sound; most pages clean with browned edges; some have small stains and marks incl. margins of some plate pages.

Some have a theme of hill farming and rural life in Wales. Pages and wrappers clean with some light tanning, pencil name to flyleaf; staples have some rust (no real staining). Blue jacket has tanning to margins and some small light marks, rubbed edges wirh small tear top. A Good+ copy.

Maps to endpapers. xiii, 352ppm large quarto. Illustrated throughout with the author's beautiful pen and ink drawings, many full page. The book is a record of the impressions the English landscape, the countryside and its buildings, made upon the author, an American architect from the 1970s. Places include Longbridge Deverill in Wiltshire, Buckland in Oxfordshire, Longleat, Stourhead, Pusey House, and a section on Lancelot Capability Brown. A near Fine copy, with some light dust spotting to top closed page edges. Very light handling wear to jacket.
