An album of photography of Panama captured and compiled by a Raymond Peet (1915-1975) of Utica, New York during Army service from about 1942 to 1945 (according to enlistment records found online), highlighted by about three dozen images of female cabaret performers and clubs, notable for relevance to recent scholarship. Description:
[ca. 1920]. 8 1/2" X 5 1/2" commercial album by Badger Albums (cat. no 1220-0). Black cloth over flexible boards. String binding through left margin holding 11 linen backed black and white silver print photographs, each approximately 7" x 5." About near fine throughout. A lovely circa-1920 album of forestry photographs. This lacks any notation or identification and came to me without provenance or background information, though the style of photography, coupled with the final print showing a group of men standing around a motion picture film camera, strongly suggests these are reference photographs for an educational or documentary film. Additionally, the variety of trees shown most often appear to be white pines and one image clearly shows a man pointing at an outbreak of blister rust on the trunk and branches of one. The invasive fungus, which came to the U.S. from Asia around the turn of The 20th Century, was a rampant blight on American pines around 1920 and while I know nothing with certainty…

Description:
[Arrow Rock, Missouri], (1901). 2 - albumen print photographs. Each approximately 7" x 4 3/4" prints on matching 9" x 7" decorative card mounts. Each with a hand-written date to the upper corner of card verso "9 July 1901." Mild to moderate handling wear to prints and mounts. About very good still. An evocative pair of albumen print photographs documenting the immediate aftermath of a July 9, 1901 fire which devastated Arrow Rock, Missouri, a village of about 350 residents (at the time) situated on the Missouri River in Saline County and well known as a prominent Boonslick trading post, point of ferry service on the Santa Fe Trail, and longtime home of artist George Caleb Bingham. These photographs lack attribution, though printed dates to the card versos coupled with the presence of the distinctive “City Hotel” signage of the J. Hutson Tavern (shown at the left-most edge of one of the photos here, with the tavern just out of frame) have us fully confident in identifying these as Arrow Rock.…

[St. Charles, Missouri]: American Car and Foundry, (1932-1940). Commercial album approximately 15" x 11." Black cloth over flexible card panels. Metal screw post binding at left margin holding 43 black paper leaves with 140 large black and white photographs adhesive mounted to rectos and versos. Strip of black cloth through post binding covering spine with lettering in white pen: "AIR. COND'T. EQUIP." Some flaking from edges of paper leaves. A couple of prints laid in loose and some cloth tape reinforcement to some leaves at hinge creases. Else very good. An engineering department reference album of the St. Charles, Missouri headquarters of the American Car and Foundry Co. holding 140 original photographs of air conditioning systems and components used in passenger railroad cars from 1932 to about 1940. The photographs are typically identified with typed specs and information providing a broad and highly technical record of the early years of mass adaptation of the now-ubiquitious use of cooling…

Description:
Various, including Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee, (1992-2002). 13 sticky-page commercial photo albums holding about 625 color drugstore print snapshots, several ticket stubs, and some varied ephemera. About 20 prints sporadically perished from albums. Overall condition excellent. Very good or better throughout. 13 albums worth of snapshot photography documenting chiefly late-career performances by Waylon Jennings at venues in southern Indiana and Kentucky from about 1992 to 2001. Captured by a single, devoted fan, the images include many featuring performances with Jennings' wife, Jessi Colter and one with the short-lived supergroup The Highwaymen. The albums typically capture single concerts at venues like the Little Nashville Opry in Nashville, Indiana ; The Executive Inn in Owensboro, Kentucky ; and various nightclubs in Louisville, Kentucky. The final two albums document the anonymous compiler's attendance at an estate sale held at the Jennings' home in Brentwood, Tennessee, one of his final…

Description:
Mansfield, Ohio: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Club, 1957. About 88 completed entry forms (printed forms, filled out in manuscript ink) and 3 manuscript ink ledger pages. All housed in an about contemporary snap-ring binder. Additional, brief manuscript notes of correspondence occasionally attached to forms. Contents with general mild handling wear. Solidly very good. An archive of entry forms for a Sunday, May 26, 1957 road rally, the "Johnny Appleseed Rallye," staged by the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Club of Mansfield. The event appears to have been dominated by popular European roadsters of the day (applications are notated with MG, Porsche, Jag, VW, Austin Healy, etc... The occasional American make does appear, though we count only about 3 in a field of more than 80 ("T-Bird," "Pontiac," and "Nash-Rambler.") The entry fee was $8/per and while the specific route of the race is not disclosed, the Northeast Ohio section of the SCCA continues to run the race over a 140 mile rural course through Tuscarawas, Carroll,…

Description:
[Austria], (1927-1935). 23 photo albums. Various outside dimensions from 6” x 4” to 8” x 5 1/2.” Holding more than 1,200 black and white snapshot photographs to rectos and versos of paper leaves. Prints range in size from about 2 1/2” square to approximately 5” x 3 1/2.” Some infrequent handling wear and a few perished prints from pages, otherwise all uncommonly clean and well preserved. About very good-plus. A substantial archive of vernacular snapshot photography all originating from the same, almost certainly Austrian, family and dated between 1927 and 1935. More than 1,200 images focus on what appear to be travel and holidays, often in the Alps. The images range from typical point and shoot family views to significantly more considered, artful impressions of the human figure, Alpine scenery, city views, etc... all combining to form a lovely and broad archive of Austrian vernacular photography in the era just prior to the onset of World War II. Albums are a blend of seemingly…
