D.G. Mannel [Munnel?], B.D.. With kind regards. G.G. Fraser. 7th April, 1911." ... ... ... Fraser was librarian at the city library for some forty years and was the author of other books on Aberdeen and on Scottish history. The work is informative and very well researched and written and is scarce in its original form,particularly in such good condition.

Horgan is a novelist, short story writer and historian and this book, which cover's the future president's life from age 21 to 28 which he spent in New Salem, IL, was commissioned by the "Saturday Evening Post" in honour of the centennial of Lincoln's first inauguration.

East Coast Sheet IV; 965 x 265mm (38" x 25") folded into a brown pebbled cloth covered slip case, titled gilt on the cover, 130 x 220mm; 24 steel engraved segments, linen backed and with protective panels at the folded outer sections; slight fraying and a couple of small splits at the head of the slip case but otherwise both the case and the chart are in good or better condition. ... ... ... The chart is corrected to 1857 and there are seven lighthouses marked around the coast. There is no reference number shown on the map although the surveyors are identified as Cmdrs. Slater and Otter.

Freedom Press, London, 1970; 140 x 214mm, pp 32; paper wrappers; staples rather rusted but otherwise a very good copy The cover story is a 10pp feature by Vivian Harper "Bertrand Russell and the anarchists". This draws on earlier material, including on an unsigned review in Anarchy in 1918 of Russell's book "Roads to Freedom", on his trenchant criticisms of the state socialism which had developed in Russia post-1917 and on his activities against war in general and in support of unilateral disarmament in the 1960s. Harper concludes that although Russell was not an anarchist he clearly had a leaning towards that philosophy (as he had himself acknowledged in his writing) ending by writing "For generations he has been a liberating influence".
