Description:
New York.: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum., 1993. Publisher’s wrappers. Slightly rubbed, with creasing to rear cover.. 34.6 x 27 cm.. pp. 112. “Lothar Baumgarten’s site-specific work for New York’s Guggenheim Museum, AMERICA Invention, is comprised of two pieces: the painted installation in the Frank Lloyd Wright building and this publication. Just as Baumgarten’s wall work appropriates the architectural structure of Wright’s museum, this publication usurps the format of Guggenheim Magazine. This ‘issue’, however, has been designed by the artist, together with his long-time collaborator Walter Nikkels, and is intended to be a work in itself.” (from the catalogue’s Foreword). Most of the catalogue consists in fact of Baumgarten’s photographs of the Pitt Rivers Museum collection of ethnographic objects, taken between 1968 and 1970. This copy inscribed in 1993 by Baumgarten on the opening page.

Description:
Vienna.: Galerie nächst St. Stephan., 1966. Single sheet, offset printed in black on pink paper.. (21 x 15.3 cm).. The original printed announcement for the ‘Actions Concert for Al Hansen’, held on the evening of 29 October 1966 at cleric Otto Mauer’s Galerie nächst St. Stephan in Vienna. Besides Muehl and Nitsch, Rudolf Schwarzkogler also took part, meaning that three of Vienna Actionism’s main proponents performed together while also allowing a wider circle of Viennese artists to join. Alongside Kurt Kren and Peter Weibel, Oswald Wiener appeared with the Actionists for the first time. Further participants included the painter and musician Christian Ludwig Attersee, the writer Reinhard Priessnitz and Dieter Haupt. Many of the artists’ contributions took place simultaneously throughout the evening: Kren passed filmstrips around the audience, Attersee projected a one-hour film (Gartenfilm) on to the wall, and Weibel, accompanied by Muehl performed his ‘action lecture 2’ through the… Read More

Rotterdam.: Galerie Het Venster., 1964. Original silver paper wrappers, stapled. Some creasing to covers.. (19.6 x 25 cm).. pp. (4) + (12) insert. Catalogue for one of Gribling’s early solo exhibitions at the Galerie het Fenster, Rotterdam, June 1964. Includes a catalogue of the 14 exhibited works (all again showing Gribling’s fascination with the use of polyester in his paintings), as well as the artist’s new manifesto, “Proposities voor een aproportionele schilderkunst”. Both the manifesto and the exhibited works show Gribling’s growing interest in banality and mass culture. A central half-width bound-in insert includes a text by H.R. Hoetink and an 8-page colour screenprinted reproduction of the artist’s surname (blue on glossy red paper). This copy signed by Gribling on the inner rear cover, and numbered ‘no.19’ from an unspecified edition.

Tübingen.: Edition Daci_., 1975. Original printed wrappers. Rubbing to adges and with short 2cm tear to lower edge of front wrapper.. (21 x 30 cm).. pp. (56). Black-and-white illustrations throughout, including many full-page bleed. The meander, a serpentine shape stylised and popularised throughout classical Greek and Roman art and architecture, was eventually to find its way to the forefront of the European avant-garde when, in 1960, Croatian painter Julije Knifer - a member of the Yugoslavian proto-Conceptualist Gorgona Group - declared that from that moment on, his work would consist exclusively of the meander. Knifer’s primary output for the rest of his forty-year career would be meanders, created across a broad spectrum of techniques, materials, and scales, but almost always created in black-and-white. From 1971 Knifer started to produce large-scale meanders on exterior and interior walls, and in 1975, in an abandoned quarry near Tübingen, with help of many collaborators, he painted a 20 x… Read More

Description:
Lund.: Lunds Konsthall., 1967. Folded poster, printed offset in black and orange on thin transparent paper. A fine copy.. Unfolded (59 x 41.5 cm); folded 20 x 14 cm.. Original programme poster for the Swedish Fluxus concert at Lunds Konsthall, March 10-12, 1967. Two versions of this poster exist, the first, presented here, designed by Ben Vautier, which was eventually rejected because of its emphasis on Vautier’s ART TOTAL. George Brecht was to design a second version, which was the one produced and used for the event. The concert in Lund was organised by Vautier, Brecht, and P.A. Gette, and included works by Fluxus artists such as Eric Anderson, Dick Higgins, Alison Knowles, George Maciunas, Benjamin Patterson, Tomas Schmit, Mieko Shiomi, Robert Watts, Emmett Williams, and La Monte Young. Examples of this first version of the programme are rare. [Ref. Fluxus etc. - The Gilbert and Lila Silverman Collection, no. 660, only Brecht’s second version of the poster is listed].

Düsseldorf.: Mediacontact., 1971-73.. 11 issues. Original wrappers, each signed or stamped by the contributing artists.. (30 x 21 cm).. pp. 8-24 per issue. ""Information from artists and artists’ groups in whose working fields a consciousness-building concept is discernible."" It was with this short sentence that publisher/artist Dietmar Kirves – also known to many as a German member of the ""NO!art"" movement – characterised his two publication series ""art information"" and ""media news"". With the two series, Kirves' aim was to create a platform for making information on contemporary art accessible to a broad public inexpensively, and thus to encourage a creative dialog with the public. In the period from 1970 to 1973, Kirves asked artists belonging to various art movements – generally of an anti-art-establishment nature – to submit momentary takes on their working processes as well as examples of their work. In the ""art information"" series, editions by Joseph Beuys, Michael Buthe,… Read More

(28 x 21.6 cm).. pp. (20). With 14 black-and-white offset illustrations. “The present exhibition brings together, in my opinion, some of the most memorable shows of 1963-64. These particular artists through their wide public exposure have created the atmosphere of the past season and will affect future developments. Their influence, however, is more than from a shared spirit or attitude than from individual techniques. It is this immediate attitude we hope to capture” (T-Grace Sharpless, Curator and Institute of Contemporary Art Director). One of the rarest exhibition catalogues relating to the emergence of American Pop art. The “Atmosphere ’64” exhibition in Philadelphia ran from April 17 - June 1, 1964, and included the work of 14 artists” John Chamberlain, Burgoyne Diller, Hans Hofmann, Ellsworth Kelly, Roy… Read More
