Copy with prices noted in a contemporary hand, a (contemporary) handwritten note on the verso of the first flyleaf says: "Dans cet Exemplaire se trouve [sic] les prix de l'estimation fait par G. Martin". On the title page a handwritten exlibris of "Cl. J. Bégné" 2pp of contemporary manuscript notes bound-in; after the titlepage; 2 other, smaller pages bound-in between pp. 342/3 & a loosely inserted leaf of the same size inserted at the same place. Bruxelles, chez l'auteur, rue des Boiteux Son 5, No. 17, et chez les principaux libraires et mds d'estampes du royaume, (1844). Oblong folio (size c. 28 x 40,5 cm). Title plus 14 plates, all coloured. The plates are protected by pale pink guards. Full dark aubergine coloured morocco binding signed 'Crabbé', richly decorated in gilt and black and with gilt dedication on the front cover: 'A son Altesse Royale, le Duc de Brabant'. Inner dentelles gilt and cream 'moirée' endpapers. All edges gilt. (binding very lightly rubbed and top and bottom of spine very slightly damaged, some very light discolouration of the binding; some light foxing and some offsetting on endpapers from the inner dentelles). A lovely copy.

(Lycée Concordet - Paris) 1901. (44 pp). Oblong. (21,5 x 18 cm). Boards with a drawing in colour on the front cover and with a black and white drawing on the back cover.A very charming note book with notes and drawings on different subjects, some technical, some architectural and at the end four 'comics' by a talented young man. This is most probable the work of Maurice Pottier (Paris 1883 - 1982), architect. He enters the 'Ecole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures' in Paris in 1904 and graduates in 1907. From 1908 to 1910 he works for the 'Service des bâtiments de la Compagnie des chemins de fer du Nord'. He installs himself in Neuilly and works essentially for private persons. His creations include the 'Palace les Cèdres' in Nice-Cimiez the 'hotel particulier Colloredo-Mansfeld in Rueil-Malmaison, both 1926. Not much is know about his personal life.

No place, no date (but c. 1910/1912). (ii), 270 pages in manuscript in a legible hand. Thick 4to. Suède binding, rubbed and one tie missing. Some loose notes by the author loosely inserted. And some annotations / corrections added in a different hand and colour.Extract of the two registers about the booktrade held in the Municipal Library of Toulouse, written by the bookseller Edmond Lamouzèle, an author in his own right. The original registers date from the eighteenth century, this is a summary / extract made in the beginning of the twentieth century of these records that were difficult to access. The manuscript contains a wealth of information on the book trade and its organization and about individual booksellers and printers in Toulouse in the eighteenth century.

1739. Venezia, Appresso Francesco Pitteri, 1739. 334pp. Titlepage in red and black & some woodcut ornaments in the texts. Contemporay vellum binding. The first edition of this work appeared in 1735.

1827. Sciena, nella tipografia Mucci, Con Approv. (1827). One sheet, (c. 19 x 29 cm). Text within typographical border. The carnival song originated in the fifteenth- and early sixteenth-century and celebrated the carnival season in Florence. Lyrics were drawn mostly from popular legend and daily life. A rare survival.

A lovely specimen by this famous Parisian foundry printed in various colours and on various paper.

Paris, Septembre 1890. Large 4to. 8 sheets, printed on the recto and verso. Loose in grey paper wrapper (wrapper a bit damaged at the bottom of the fold and with some staining) Pricelist on inside front and back covers.
The fonts in the price-list are numbered 501 - 726 which correspond to the first six sheets. Two extra sheets (with other numbers) have been added it seems. And there is a four-page price-list inserted that is dated September 1894.

1923. Brooklyn: Mergenthaler Linotype Company, 1923, 4to., paper wrappers. (16) pages. Covers slightly faded. These designs were cut for the linotype from the original designs of William Caslon I. Illustrated with Caslon initials, borders, characters, and a brief article on the significance of his types and their value in printing.

1857. Leipzig, 1857. 258, (ii) pp plus 20 pages with the printed list of realised prices. 3483 items described. Late nineteenth century half cloth, marbled boards. Foxed throughout. Exlibris "Maurice Jametel" on the inside front cover. Auction sale of 3 December 1857 and the following days selling part of the collection (works on paper) of Maximilian Speck von Sternburg (1776 - 1856), a wool merchant and art collector and of that of Philipp Jacob Passanvant (1782 - 1856) (?), also textile merchant and art collector.

1776. De Novo in hunc Ordinem digesti anno MDCCLXXVI. Leovardiae, Johannes Seydel, 1776.Titlepage, i blank sheet, 271,89pp. Folio. A very good, crisp copy, unbound in sheets (Titlepage, 1 blank, A-Yyy2, A-Bb) (Without the final blank Bb2). Uncut, wide margins. Arms of 'Friesland' on the titlepage. Albert van Saksen founded the Court of Friesland in 1499 in order to govern and administer justice with the viceroy. But after the uprising against Spain the Court had to restrict itself to administering justice. The special legal library could only be used by members of the Court. Only the 12 councelors and the Procurator-General were allowed to borrow the books. Lawyers and others could consult the books in the library but not borrow them. The clerk of the court was also the librarian. Lawbooks were the major category at the library but there were also theological, historical philological works and the better literary authors were also represented in Latin, French and Dutch. 1826. Le catalogue se distribue à Paris, chez M. Hainze... 1826. 27pp. 141 items described. Nineteenth century half red morocco, marbled boards. Priced throughout in a contemporary hand in pencil. The last two items #140 Porte-feuilles et livres blanches & #141 Articles omis have a pencilled note of what is contained in these lots. Some browning throughout. The catalogue has a two page index containing around 135 names of artists and which numbers in the catalogue they correspond to. This to facilitate the use of the catalogue.

A lovely copy of this catalogue that is scarce on the market, which contains both the author index and the list of prices realised, that are absent from many copies. The collection was formed by Honoré Gabriel Riqueti, comte de Mirabeau (1749-1791). Mirabeau's early death interrupted his plan to form a kind of universal library, to be open to all scholars and researchers. He started realizing it "with the same impetuosity which ruled all his activities" (Renouard): in eleven months, according to the preface to the catalogue, he formed the above collection; its most important component was the library of Comte de Buffon (1707-1788), the great naturalist, which he had acquired. With the exlibri of A.N.L. Munby & H.P.K(raus) on the inside front cover. Second, enlarged edition of this catalogue that was first published in 1721. The gift of the Prousteau library founded the library at Orléans. Guillaume Prousteau was a law professor at the university of Orléans. In 1694 he donated his large collection of books to the city of Orléans, and added an annual amount to buy books and to maintain a librarian. He also paid large amounts for the actual construction of the interior of the library. According to Peignot (Répertoire bibliographique universel, page 120), Prousteau was born on 26 May 1626 in Tours and the gift was made in 1694. He states that Prousteau died in 1715, but Neveux & Dacier (Les Richesses de bibliothèques provenciale, I - Paris, 1982) p. 82 cite Prousteau's birth as 1628… Read More

1773. (London, 1773). 24pp. 12mo. Drop head title. Last page dustsoiled. Disbound & loose. John Cooke was a bookseller in London, who, according to Plomer, in partnership with J. Coote made a specialty of jestbooks and chronicles of crime, which he advertised extensively in provincial newspaper. The books in this catalogue all have very extensive notes on the contents etc. [c.f. Plomer, Dictionary of Printers and Booksellers].

Catalogue in two parts, the first consisting of paintings and sculpture belonging to Tugny, the second with paintings and sculpture inherited from Pierre Crozat. Pages 5 - 14 (59 items) form the collection of paintings and statues formed by De Tugny and pages 15 - 60 (items 1 - 282) form the Crozat collection of paintings and statues. For nearly all the items (paintings and statues) sizes are given. Item 58 of the De Tugny collection has a manuscript correction, changing Pigale into Falconet. The collection contains a.o. several Rembrandt's and several Ruben's. Joseph-Antoine Crozat, marquis de Tugny (1699 - 1751) was the younger brother of Louis-François Crozat, marquis du Château, who had inherited the collections of his uncle, Pierre Crozat, (died 1740) Crozat du Châtel died in January, 1750. The 'Calcographie du Louvre' was created in 1797. It contains a collection of copperplates for engravings, a collection of prints. And also printing workshop where prints were printed from the plates in the collection that were to be sold at the Louvre. The present work is the catalogue of the collection in the mid-nineteenth century with list of prints available and their prices. 1827. A Paris, chez J.-S. Merlin, Libraire, 1827. (ii),ii,58,(ii)pp. 399 items described. Uncut. Original pink wrappers. (pp. 41-48 with a light waterstain in the margin) Charles Nodier (1780-1844) settled in Paris after he had been appointed librarian of the Arsenal library in 1824. There he soon became one of the leaders of the literary life in Paris. He assembled three collections which were not very large but contained only carefully chosen books. In the Grolier Club catalogue of French auction sales # 595 is mentioned that "Lonchamp records that Noder compiled this catalogue himself; according to Graesse, many of the lots sold for extremely low prices".
