The point of this publication, supervised by Dan Malan, of The Classics Collector magazine, is the presence of 45 lost engravings by Gustave Dore along with 130 other Victorian illustrations. Dore did a fine job--his ghosts are the scariest, his poor the shabbiest, and his Scrooge the meanest among the examples on display--but it was a job for an ephemeral publication, not to be compared with the artist's independent projects. Beautiful First Edition with original Victorian leather covered boards with five raised bands on the spine with guilt stamped florals and gilt text in the compartments and elaborate guilt stamped embossing on the boards. A small quarto of 9 1/4 by 6 1/4 inches with the edges of the text block gilt and with gilt dentelles on the leather turn-ins. Engraved full color title page. The contents are tightly bound-in and the entire text is extremely neat. Some pages have some foxing. 187 pages each decorated with a gold border around the print. None Very nice and clean, tight copy. 6-1/4 x 4-1/2 inches Blue printed paper wrappers, gilt stamped lettering to front. Blue cloth, very attractively decorated gilt script and AEG. Attached red ribbon marker. Pictorial eps, profusely illustrated through-out with pictures and text drawn. Very Little to no foxing. The only issue with this volume is the worm damage to the inside covers near the spine. Spine also has a couple tiny holes off to the side. Book was professionally treated for book worms.
