New York: A.L. Burt, Publisher Green publishers cloth; gilt spine lettering. No date; circa 1902. Part of the Cornell Series (noted at base of spine) of Dickens' "Little Folks" collection, featuring child characters from his novels. Inside the covers are A.L. Burt reprints. The title pages are reproduced from the Burt reprints and indicate "Illustrated," but there are no illustrations. Title page of Dame Durden shows sub-title "Women" instead of the correct "Woman" as noted in the author's Preface; the first erroneous typesetting apparently occurred when Burt reprinted. Both Prefaces and complete texts are also reprints. Attractive copy with only very light rubbing to cover extremities. Prior owner date and signature with accompanying slight smudge (which may have been deliberate) on front endpaper. Otherwise clean, tight, and unworn.

Yellow Jacket edition C224; rear cover lists "Other Grand Novels from Our Yellow Jacket List.". First published January 1942; this edition reset 1955. Title page states "The events described in this book took place in the late summer of 1939." Light rubbing to cover extremities, with most wear to lower spine edge. Few moderate, pinpoint-size indentations to upper rear cover near spine. Tiny, moderate pressure indentation to lower front cover and first few pages. Otherwise clean, tight, and unworn.

Scarce novel by Ebers, a German professor, Egyptologist, and director of the Museum at Jena, best known as the owner-steward of the Ebers Papyrus, an ancient Egyptian medical text. Translator's note in the Preface states that the original work "contains a series of notes establishing the authenticity of the incidents and descriptions, but as they have no connection with the story it has been deemed advisable to omit them from the translation," an apparent case of 19th century "dumbing down." Eleven pages of advertisements for other Lippincott publications in rear. Light rubbing to cover extremities. Front hinge paper starting. Clean and tight.

Contents reprinted from "The Atlantic Monthly", 1931-1932. The author was one of six children of Maryland Governor William Thomas Hamilton and Clara Jenness (the daughter of Richard Jenness (1802-1872), Portsmouth, New Hampshire businessman, banker, and politician. This is a short history and memoir of the author's life in Hagerstown. Moderate scuffing and soil to pastedown illustration; tiny portion of lower corner alongside spine chipped away. Small (1/4") hole to upper rear spine near gutter. Irregular light vertical crease to inside front cover and rear pastedown, possibly due to careless storage. Interior clean and intact.

Lovely tinted frontis and engraved text portraits and tissue guards intact and crisp. Three-quarter leather binding, raised bands, gilt spine lettering, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers--once very attractive but now marred by library "repairs" and marks. Clear laminate affixed over spine; white tape to front and rear hinges, resulting in split along front endpaper; various library inkstamps and black markings over some library marks appear on front blank endpapers, "Dandies" title page, verso of rear marbled endpaper, and top page block; scars from pocket- and sticker- removal to rear endpaper. Moderate wear to cover edges, moderate-to-heavy rubbing of marbled cover boards. Interior text crisp and clean.

Leominster, Massachusetts: Self-published, 1982 Well-intentioned, amateur humorous whodunit set in New England. With 116 pages. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the title page. Text not proof-read or corrected before printing, but this may not matter to certain buyers. The author, who lived in Leominster and Sterling, Massachusetts, died June 27, 1997 at age 86. For many years, Smiley and her husband operated Sterling Orchards. Very light cover wear. Clean and tight.
