Description:
Venice: Giovanni Varisco, 1559. Leaf. Very good. Single leaf measuring a little over 9 by 14 inches, printed in red and black and with woodcut initials. This is folio 232 from an unidentified pre-Tridentine Missale Romanum, probably the Dominican Missale of 1559 printed by Giovanni Varisco. This leaf covers the Proper of the Saints from October 20 through October 27. The 21st is the feast of the 11,000 martyred virgins, but without mentioning St. Ursula; October 25, Chrystantus and Daria, and the 27th, Vigil of Simon and Jude, apostles. So Raphael (24th) is missing as is Pope Everistus (26th).. There are three woodcut initials (probably from stock as they do not necessarily relate to the feasts involved), one on the obverse and two on the reverse of the leaf. There is a long closed tear, artfully mended, on the outer margin, touching the text but without loss, else this is a fine example. Housed in a protective folder.

Venice: Giovanni Varisco, 1559. Leaf. Very good. Single leaf measuring a little over 9 by 14 inches, printed in red and black and with woodcut initials. This is folio 173 from an unidentified pre-Tridentine Missale Romanum, probably the Dominican Missale of 1559 printed by Giovanni Varisco. This leaf covers the Proper for the end of the 19th, all of the 20th and beginning of the 21st Sundays after Pentecost. Each proper begins with a woodcut initial. The initial beginning the 21st Sunday appears to be a Dominican friar. The inner edge has been remargined with the partial loss of a couple of letter of marginal references, else this is a fine example. Housed in a protective folder.

Cream-colored cloth spine, printed lettering label, brown paper with flecks of dark and gold over boards. Title page in red and black. Unpaginated (32pp.) A fine copy with only a trace of rubbing. Description:
n.p. (London): n.p., 1649. Early Edition. Hardcover. Very good. 12mo. (4),260,pp. This edition is likely a variant of Madan #8, or a mixed 12 from Newcomb's printings for No 7(see Madan, p. 18). Without a frontispiece portrait nor any other illustration. Possibly defective, ending with leaf M10 and the word '"Finis" and thus probably not bound with the Letter from the Prince as described by Madan in No. 8. Originally attributed to Charles I, it is now acknowledged that the author is John Gauden. There were at least 40 different English editions printed in 1649, some hurriedly, as this copy must have been Contemporary full brown calf tooled in blind on the boards and on the spine. Joints cracked, but firm; head of spine and lettering labels nearly perished; old library stamp and bookplate; else a good copy.

Guadalajara: Grafica de Comala, 2017. Limited edition. Stiff card wraps. Fine. 4½ by 7 inches. (18)pp. Card wraps covered with bright yellow paper nicely printed in black and red by letterpress. Printed letterpress on handmade paper. The fonts are Garamond and Intertype. Illustrated with full page and in text art by Gomez taken directly from the linocut blocks. A fine copy. One of 50 copies signed and numbered by the author. This is copy No. 44. This is the story of the famed Aqueduct of Padre Tembleque, constructed between 1553 and 1570 between the Tecajete volcano and Otumba. I covers some territory and ground level, and underground and over ravines and valleys. There are three arcades, 46, 13 and 67 arches. The height of the tallest of the arches is 127 feet (38.75 meters). A marvelous architectural accomplishment by the Franciscan friar, and not a Unesco Heritage Site. This title is a fine tribute to Tembleque's hydraulic system, finely printed and illustrated.
