New York: New York Labor News Company, 1942. 12mo (7 1/8 x 5 inches (185 x 126 mm), 62, [2] pages, in stapled wrappers. A look at the economic basis of education from a Marxist standpoint. Issued by the Socialist Labor Party, this pamphlet argues that reformers can't overhaul education within a capitalist framework. College professors serve the capitalist and war-making class, according to the author, Aaron M. Orange. Soviet schools also come under attack because of "Stalinist corruption." Orange was a New York City public school teacher as well as the SLP's candidate for Vice President in the 1940 presidential election. CONDITION: Some soiling and edge wear, small stain on page 35. Overall, a Very Good copy.

Octavo (8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches; 217 x 140 mm), 201, [3] pages, in black cloth, yellow top stain, titles in gilt to spine, in a printed, unclipped dust jacket (Albee photo on lower panel). Edward Albee's adaptation of a play by English playwright Giles Cooper, in which a suburban housewife becomes a call girl. Cooper's play premiered at the Arts Theatre in London in 1962 in a production of the Royal Shakespeare Company, while Albee's adaptation was first performed in 1967 at the Plymouth Theatre in New York. It starred Barbara Bel Geddes as Jenny, Barry Nelson as her husband Richard, and Beatrice Straight as Mrs. Toothe, the brothel keeper. (And for what it's worth, Luis Buñuel's film Belle de Jour, starring Catherine Deneuve, appeared the same year and had the same theme.) CONDITION: Very light soiling to top edge. Near Fine in a Near Fine, unclipped dust jacket that shows light shelf wear. A beautiful copy.

OCLC FirstSearch shows no institutional holdings, although a separate search finds a copy in the Swarthmore College Peace Collection. RARE. Condition: Light toning to wrapper and page edges, a bit of edge wear to wrappers, staples rusted, top of page corners slightly curled. A Very Good or better copy.

A collection by the British poet, novelist, and book reviewer Kathleen Nott (1905-1999), one of 275 copies. In a rather ill-tempered but entertaining introduction, she wonders why there's so much bad poetry, which she calls "rubbish." She goes on to extol the importance of form and presentation in poetry. CONDITION: Fine.

A sumptuous catalogue for an exhibition of Fernand Léger's landscape paintings at Galerie Louis Carré in Paris from November 19 to December 31, 1954. One of 750 copies printed on Vélin d'Arches by Coulouma and Mourlot Frères in Paris. The catalogue contains 6 lithographs in color -- including two double-page spreads -- as well as illustrations in ink throughout. There's also the text of a three-way conversation between Léger, the poet Blaise Cendrars, and gallery owner Louis Carré, in which they talk about the works in the exhibition, which span the years 1905-1953. Highlights include the first publication in English of Russell's criticisms of French mathematician Henri Poincaré. One of Keynes's more interesting essays is about Trotsky, who had written "Where Is Britain Going?" Keynes is scathing: "Its dogmatic tone about our affairs, where even the author's flashes of insight are clouded by his inevitable ignorance of what he is talking about, cannot commend it to an English reader."
