Description:
New York: The Viking Press, 1974. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. Very good +/fine. A Very Good + copy of the first edition, first printing (spine mildly askew, some foxing to the closed page block's edges, tiny defect to the upper leading corner of the leaf hosing pages 39 and 40) in a Fine dust jacket; the author's Debut work of fiction and his second book to be published (the first being a philosophical work published 1988 under the title "Being and Race: Black Writing Since 1970"). Writing of this Debut Novel in the New York Times, Anne Gotlieb stated "This is a strange and often wonderful hybrid -- an ebullient philosophical novel in the form of a folktale-cum-black girl's odyssey. Description:
San Antonio: Wings Press, 2004. First Edition, First Printing. Wrappers. Fine. A Fine copy of the first edition, first printing, in the Publisher's original wrappers. As Bass states in his Afterword: "If the wild beauty of the made and physical natural world is lost or further compromised, then how much longer can the echoes of that beauty and innocence remain kindled in our own hearts? I suspect we won't know the answer until it's all gone...which makes the art - the voices and the minds - of the writers gathered here all the morer important...." A Fine copy.

London: Macmillan and Co., Limited, 1898. First Edition, First Printing. Very good. An about Very Good copy of the first edition, first printing, in the Publisher's original blue binding with the spine and front board lettered in black and the front board also illustrated in black. The spine is toned and the boards are foxed (as is usual with this work). The front pastedown hosts the bookplate of Henry C. Taylor. The book provides Kipling's account of the Royal Navy, based in part of his experience with them during his visit with the British Channel Fleet which first appeared as a group of six articles in the Morning Post in November 1898 in which Kipling a fresh look at the newly strengthened Fleet at the turn of the century, a development brought about England's growing concern about advances and growth of the German Navy. Rudyard Kipling won the 1907 Nobel Prize for Literature, making him the first author writing in English to win the Prize. At the time, he was the youngest author to win the Prize.
