University of Washington Press, 1987. Trade Paperback. 514 pages. A paperback copy in very good condition. Former owner's name and date on half-title. These gripping and powerful prose narratives relate monumental events in the lives of the forebears of Tlingit clans, from the prehistoric migration to the coast of Southeast Alaska to the first contact with Europeans. The stories were recorded from the 1960s to the present by twelve tradition bearers who where passing down for future generations the accounts of haa shuka, which means "our ancestors." Their narratives tell of the origin of social and spiritual concepts and explain the complex relationships among members of a given clan to their relatives in other clans, to spirits of the land where the vents took place, to the spirits of departed ancestors, and to the spirits of various animals, including killer whale and bear. The focus here is on the stories and story tellers themselves, who lived amazingly different lives, reflecting in a small…

Description:
New World Library, 2022. Trade Paperback. A new copy. RADICALLY REIMAGINE THE SECOND HALF OF LIFE "There can be a certain perverse pleasure, as well as a sense of rightness and beauty, in insisting on flowering just when the world expects you to become quiet and diminish." -- from the book For any woman over fifty who has ever asked "What now? Who do I want to be?" comes a life-changing book showing how your next phase of life may be your most dynamic yet. This is a time for gaining new perspectives, challenging and evolving belief systems, exploring callings, uncovering meaning, and ultimately finding healing for accumulated wounds. Western folklore and mythology are rife with brilliantly creative, fulfilled, feisty, and furious role models for…
