Original uniform printed wrappers. = A very uncommon if not rare collection of Ørsted's work with two additional essays on his work by Kirstine Meyer. Written in German and Danish, Latin and French, depending upon where Ørsted published his work. The essays by Meyer in English. The Danish physicist and chemist Hans Christian Ørsted, or Oersted (1777-1851) is principally known for his reseaches in electromagnetism. He "discovered that electric currents create magnetic fields, which was the first connection found between electricity and magnetism. He is still known today for Oersted's Law. Contemporary green buckram with gilt title and society's logo on the spine. Original blue wrappers with printed title label mounted, bound in. = Signed by the author, the microscopist and medical dictor Harold Mellor Woodcock (1879-1951). An import contribution to the knowledge of microscopic parasites occurring in blood and tissue, and responsible for various illnesses with insects as vectors. With detailed illustrations and a bibliography of 152 titles. Offprints from a paper published in two subsequent issues of the Quarterly Journal of Microscopical Science. Stamps of the society in several text page margins, otherwise a very good, clean copy.

Single, large, giclée on high quality paper, measuring 45.0 x 34.0 cm. = This is a special highest, "Museum quality" facsimile of one of the most famous lithographs, woodcuts and drawings by the graphic artist M.C. Escher (1898-1972): "Lizard", made in 1942 and never published in this form, but used by Escher in his "Development II" woodcut (Bool 310-310a) and "Reptiles" (Bool 327). Full colour pictorial softcovers. = A compilation of the lizards, fossil and extant, of the seven continents, arranged geographically per country, and with further geographical subdivisions. Compiled and written by the Dutch herpetologist Cor van Hoof (b. 1945) For each taxon, the distribution, Latin name, family name, synonyms, Dutch name (if any), and maximum adult size (if known) are given. Fold in rear cover of one volume, otherwise a complete, mint set.

Mainz, J. Halenza, [1880]. Two parts in two. 8vo (text: 26.4 x 16.2 cm). Title page, 24 pp. (in English). Panorama: One folding lithographed view by F. Foltz (27 x 230 cm). Contained in original printed boards with the German title on one board, and the French/English titles on the other. = A fine, detailed panorama (bird's eye view) of the river Rhine, complete with the rare descriptive English text, describing in detail all the towns, landmarks and great views along the river. Even the history of the towns and the local hotels are mentioned. The map is more common, but seldom in a great condition. Numerous monuments, including statues, castles, churches, and bridges, are illustrated separately. A portrait of the engraver, Friedrich Foltz, is included. Little is known about Friedrich Arnold, the author of the text. Board edges slightly stained, spine reinforced. The panorama and the text both in pristine condition. Very rare in this state. The text seems to be quite scarce and is most often lacking.

Hamburg, Georg Christian Grund, 1752. Six parts in one. Small 8vo. Title pages with engraved allegorical vignettes; 656, xiv [of 16] pp.; one very large, multi-folded, engraved plate. Contemporary half calf over mottled boards. All edges red. = Early volume of a German natural history magazine, being one of the first entirely dealing with natural history subjects. This series was completed in 26 volumes published up to 1762. Owner's inscription in an old hand on the front pastedown. Lacks the last index leaf and endpapers. Boards a bit worn, small worm hole in the gutter, otherwise very good, clean. Cat BM(NH) p. 1414.

Kyoto, Geisodo, Meiji 38 [1905]. Folio (30.8 x 21.1 cm). Limp boards with handwritten title. Three pages with text and 46 with colourful pochoir illustrations. = This work contains designs and illustrations based on Indonesian art, including batik, which in the 18th century had been introduced in Japan by the Dutch and had a distinct influence on Japanese art, in particular on textile design. With an introduction by the Kyoto painter Tomioka Tessai (1837-1924). Yamada Naosaburo was the printer and editor. This is one of two volumes. A vague dampstain to the lower front board. Internally a very good, clean copy. Rare.

A rare work: we only found one auction record. Stafleu and Cowan record only one copy too. Fore edge uncut. Spine taped, minimal foxing to the boards, otherwise a very good, clean copy. Batavia, Lands-Drukkerij, 1843. Two parts in two. 8vo. xxiv, 115; 311, 22 pp; seven large folded tables and charts, five large folded plates. Original uniform printed wrappers. = Important work on tea and tea cultivating in the former Dutch East Indies (Malay Archipelago), by the man who introduced advanced forms of tea culture from China. Despite his efforts, and the high quality of the tea itself, the tea production in the Dutch East Indies was economically unsuccessful until the 1870's. Well illustrated. Uncut. A third volume was published later and is not included. Wrappers soiled and front wrapper first volume with a tear, second volume with a (tea?) stain in the upper outer corner, not reaching the text. Rare.
