Description:
Blues and Pinks, and Oranges and Greens; a girl who meets and tames a wild horse, their pictures all in silhouette. Smooth colourful boards featuring the young girl and the horse she befriends. A 1-1/4" crease on most pages at the bottom, right near the spine. It does not show on the boards themselves or on the d.j. Possibly a printing error. I see a lot of copies online but very few mention a d.j.

Description:
2nd printing. A gift inscription on the front endpaper, 2006. Also on the front endpaper Robb Dunfield's signature and "Best Wishes". From the dust-jacket: "Robb Dunfield's story provokes a range of emotions: sadness, happiness, admiration and perhaps above all, inspiration. At the age of nineteen a fall from a balcony initially threatened and then forever changed the way he would live his life. Paralyzed from the neck down and ventilator-dependent, Robb has since gained international acclaim as an artist and for establishing the world's first independent-living facility for individuals with high-level disabilities. He has also developed a reputation as an engaging and uplifting motivational speaker."

"David Bouchard's evocative text reminds us of the power of the wind, the sweep of the sky, the adventures in the cold. And Henry Ripplinger's beautiful images are snapshots from the past--playing hockey on the river, lying under the big sky in a field of swaying grass, wading in a spring pond. The result is a nostalgic pilgrimage to a place that symbolizes a unique lifestyle. It is a treasure for mind and soul." (from the d.j.) SIGNED by Author on the front endpaper, without dedication.

Description:
Robert Service was born in the north English village of Preston in 1874 and moved with his family to Glasgow, Scotland when he was four. At age 22, he quit his bank job and set out for the wilds of Canada. He worked on farms in British Columbia before migrating to Seattle, San Francisco and as far south as Baja California before returning to Canada where he again took a job on a farm. Following that he worked again for the Canadian Bank of Commerce in Victoria, B.C. He was soon offered a transfer to the branch in Whitehorse, Yukon. Friends encouraged Service to write poems of his own and by the end of 1906 he had completed 34 poems which, when published as "Songs of A Sourdough" (later entitled 'The Spell of the Yukon') became an instant success. Thus began his lifelong career as a poet and writer. Service left the Yukon in 1911, married Germaine Bourgoin in Paris and they lived a life of leisure, with much of their time spent in Brittany and on the Riviera. He died at Dream Haven, his home in… Read More

Description:
From the d.j. flap: "In 1997, journalist and history buff W. Hodding Carter, along with a ragtag band of amateur sailors, set out to retrace Leif Eriksson's journey to North America. They sailed a handmade ship modeled after a traditional Viking "Knarr". It was the first voyage by Westerners to precisely follow the Vikings' route in nearly a thousand years. Beginning in a small boathouse in Maine, Carter's fifty-four-foot open-decked Viking boat, the 'Snorri', took shape from wooden planks and individually pounded iron rivets. Over the next year, the 'Snorri' sailed from the ports and fjords of Greenland through the Arctic circle to a vixtorious landing at l'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland."
"Through the extraordinary images of photographer Russell Kaye, and a colorful running text from Carter, the chronicle of this remarkable voyage is captured in rich detail."

Description:
Colin O'Brady's pursuit of a goal that had eluded many others was made even more intense by a head-to-head battle that emerged with British polar explorer Captain Louis Rudd--also striving to be "the first". Enduring Antarctica's subzero temperatures and pulling a sled that initially weighed 375 pounds--in complete isolation and through a succession of whiteouts, storms, and a series of near disasters--O'Brady persevered. "Alone with his thoughts for nearly two months in the vastness of the frozen continent--gripped by fear and doubt--he reflected on his past, seeking courage and inspiration in the relationships and experiences that had shaped his life." O'Brady persevered and did make it to the end, just 2-1/2 days before Louis Rudd. They flew out on a plane together.

Description:
D.J. with a couple of creases; spine slightly discoloured; o/w VG. Illus. match the book's cover. Text of "The Princess Nobody". Edited and with a Foreword by Cary Wilkins. "Lang's tale has been reprinted almost exactly as it was originally published. The main change has been to Americanize the English spellings. A couple of obvious errors have also been fixed. And, in one of the pictures a winged insectappears, which Lang called a Daddy Long Legs. Since Americans use that name for a type of spider, we have called the creature a Dragonfly. One final minor point: Lang used two words to name his magical wonderland--Fairy Land. We have kept the spelling in the text but have adopted its modern spelling, as one word, for the title."

Description:
From the d.j.: "It was probably the most important battle of the second World War. The German attempt to stem the vital trans-Atlantic flow of men and supplies to Britain would cost the allies more than 2600 merchant ships, 30.000 merchant seamen's lives, 5000 aircrew, and about 2500 aircraft. The battle ranged across the ocean: from the waters of the St. Lawrence, through the treacherous open sea of the North Atlantic, to the fiords of Norway and the Bay of Biscay."

Description:
From the back of the d.j.: "The impulse to write this study of Edward FirzGerald sprang from a fortuitous fellow-feeling for the man who seemed to haunt, with fastidious delicacy, the house which Peter de Polnay had rented. Soon after settling into Boulge Hall, Woodbridge, the urge came upon him to know more of the eccentric recluse who had chosen never to stir far away from the precincts of his early home and whose name, only after his death, became a household word through the universal enthusiasm for his translation of The Ruba, iyat of Omar Khayyam, and through the publication of his Letters to his many literary friends. The author made a careful study of the FitzGerald papers in Trinity College Library, Cambridge, searched for and found much new material in Woodbridge and Ipswich, and has been permitted to publish for the first time two intimate EFG letters from a private source. Permission has also been granted for the inclusion in this book of a hitherto unknown and very little portrait study of… Read More
