Description:
Bancroft & Holley. NY., 1836 Book size about 5 by 7 1/2 inches with some 352 pages. Bound in very dark green leather with elaborate covers embossing and gilt. All edges gilt. Edited by Henry William Herbert this is the second and final volume of this literary Gift Book or Annual. Title vignette and eleven full page illustrations (Missing the frontis), mostly tissue guarded. Two contributions from Washington Irving--the most interesting to me being his article on a Creole Village (A Sketch From A Steamboat), a very interesting look at the early Creole settlements in Louisiana. Book with light overall wear; some small chipping along the spine edges; tips a bit worn; end papers discolored apparently from the glue used in the binding; `light to moderate foxing throughout; small piece missing from bottom corner of one illustration. A quite nice copy of this very scarce Irving item. GOOD Language: eng Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng Language: eng Language: eng. 1st Edition.. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket.
