From the cover "Oh Wow does for Vietnam what MASH did for Korea" John Ernst Steinbeck IV (1946 â€" 1991) was an American journalist and author He was the second child of the Nobel Prize-winning author John Steinbeck In 1965, he was drafted into the US Army and served in Vietnam He worked as a journalist for Armed Forces Radio and TV, and as a war correspondent for the US Dept of Defense This is a private printing of a play/screenplay of a story that takes place in Vietnam during the war, no doubt based on his experience there The book appears to have been produced to present the story to prospective producers It was acquired in an auction of the estate of John and Elaine Steinbeck, and so it was apparently Elaine Steinbeck's own copy (since his father had died in 1968) Therefore unique, although there are no signatures or other markings In excellent condition, with only minor scuffing on corners of the spine.

Liverpool: Printed for the Author by Thos. Kaye, 1825. First. Hardcover. Good+. The Battle of Stoke Field, June 16, 1487, was essentially the last battle of the Wars of the Roses, since it was the last major engagement between contenders for the throne whose claims derived from descent from the houses of Lancaster and York respectively. The Battle of Bosworth Field, two years previously, had established Henry VII on the throne, ending the last period of Yorkist rule and initiating that of the Tudors. The Battle of Stoke Field was the decisive engagement in an attempt by leading Yorkists to unseat him in favor of the pretender, Lambert Simnel. Felix Frankfurter (1882-1965) was an Austrian-American jurist who served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1939 until 1962, during which period he was a noted advocate of judicial restraint in its judgements He helped found the American Civil Liberties Union and became a friend and adviser of President Franklin D Roosevelt, who appointed him to the Supreme CourtThis copy is near fine in brown, yellow and black printed wrappers It has an ink name stamp of a previous owner on the bottom edge, but otherwise appears unread and in excellent condition Binding is still tight, with no marks or damage to the text at all A relatively uncommon volume by an important 20th century jurist 257 (5) pp.

Albert Hartshorne (1839 â€" 1910) was an English archaeologist He developed a particular interest in church monuments, publishing The Recumbent Monumental Effigies in Northamptonshire between 1867 and 1876 His other work included Old English Glasses (1897), which explored the history of drinking glasses up to the end of the eighteenth century This book is in good to very good condition It is ¾ decorated vellum over black cloth, rear side of spine leather is splitting, corners are bumped and a bit wrinkling, but otherwise good Frontispiece color plate is loose, but the rest of the text shows only modest foxing and age toning Printed on thick art paper, this is a very heavy book, and it is common for the bindings to show weakness due to the sheer weight, but overall a handsome volume with little sign of wear Not ex-lib Interestingly, the half-title has a misprint "Old English Glasess" A letter from the publisher in 1925 (affixed to the ffep) explains… Read More

An excellent reprint copy of a classic from Louis M Alcott, the author of "Little Women" A gift inscription to previous owner, dated Christmas, 1933, but otherwise no marks at all and no damage whatsoever, inside or out Minor shelf wear on cover and color fading on spine, otherwise nearly perfect.

Thomas Carlyle (1795 â€" 1881) was a British historian, satirical writer, essayist, translator, philosopher, mathematician and teacher In later writings, Carlyle sought to examine instances of heroic leadership in history The Letters and Speeches of Oliver Cromwell (1845) presented a positive image of Cromwell: someone who attempted to weld order from the conflicting forces of reform in his own day Carlyle sought to make Cromwell's words live in their own terms by quoting him directly and then commenting on the significance of these words in the troubled context of the time Again this was intended to make the past "present" to his readers: "he is epic, still living" This set is in excellent condition, rebound in a solid cloth library-type binding, with contents in essentially fine condition Edges marbled on three sides .

Beautiful copy of a low number (83) copy of the limited two volume first edition Tan Buckram binding, with gilt titles on spines and blindstamped author's initials on covers, both in excellent condition slipcase as issued Volume 1 paginated to 411, Volume 2 continued pagination to 849 Although Roberts' Northwest Passage is perhaps better known, this novel, describing the Revolutionary War from a Loyalist perspective, is considered by many to be his best work Note: This is a very heavy set, so please keep in mind my policy of free shipping in the US when comparing prices of similar offerings.

A unique lexicon of more than 15,000 English words used of and about Theories, Concepts, Doctrines, Systems, Attitudes, Practices, States of Mond and Branches of Science..." Laurence Urdang (1927 - 2008) was a lexicographer, editor and author noted for first computerising the unabridged Random House Dictionary of the English Language, published in 1966. He was also the founding editor of Verbatim, a quarterly newsletter on language. This is a fine copy in green cloth with yellow and orange titles on the spine and front cover.  No marks or damage at all.  No DJ, but this edition apparently was not published with a jacket. DG.

London: John Murray, 1901. Popular Impression of the Corrected Copyright Edition. Hardcover. Poor. On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection is a work of scientific literature by Charles Darwin that is considered to be the foundation of evolutionary biology.  It was published in 1859 and introduced the scientific theory that populations evolve over the course of generations through a process of natural selection.  It presented a body of evidence that the diversity of life arose by common descent through a branching pattern of evolution. Darwin included evidence that he had collected on the Beagle expedition in the 1830s and his subsequent findings from research, correspondence, and experimentation. Considered one of the most important books every published, any edition (there were six) of The Origin of Species that was published during Darwin's lifetime (he died in 1882) is exceptionally sought after, since the print runs were relatively small for such a significant work Only 10,000 copies were printed cumulatively through this fifth edition (which was for only 2,000 copies) This copy was custom bound in full leather with gilt tooling, but the spine and front board are loose and the back board has detached But the hinge breaks are clean and should be repairable The text block is very sound however, and except for the hinge detachments, the leather binding is in relatively good condition There is modest foxing on the ffeps, but otherwise the contents are in very good condition with only minor age toning The edges are marbled, as are the endpapers.
