Collation: xii, [3] 4- 524 pp. Binding in very good condition with only minor wear or rubbing on ends of spine, hinges, covers and corners. Oval stamp of the Royal Society of Endinburgh on front paste down, Society leaf and title page. Minor foxing on first two leaves and several end leaves, as well as on edges of text block. There is occasional minor foxing and some age browing to top edge of a few leaves in the middle of the book This work provides major literature contributions on aneurisms from 2nd century (Galen) to end of the 18th century (Baille and Deschamps) The book is organized into three Parts: I - Symptoms Pathology, and Causes (starting with Galen and ending with Baille); II & Treatment (Aetius in the 6th century to Deschamps, 1799); III & Bibliography and Index.

[12] [2]- 320pp with 13 (one bis) folding plates; [2] [321]- 701 [35, including 2 page catalog] pp with 13 folding plates. This collection of the complete works of Mariotte is illustrated with 26 folding copper plates. There is an inscription on each title page: "Bibliotheca Viennensis Scholarum Ciarum de Virgem Fidelem, 1781." There is worming on paste down and free end paper near upper and lower gutter regions of both volumes, not affecting text of any preliminary pages. General browning to some plates with some spotting to clear region of fore edges of text block. This is a wide margin copy. This is the first edition of the collected works of Father Mariotte who was a physicist and Roman Catholic priest. The advertisement at rear is a Publisher's catalogue "corrected April 1846) This classic research by Burrows was critical in dispelling the earlier hypothesis by Monro-Kellie that the blood volume in the brain remains constant. Burrows "demonstrated that the amount of blood in the brain can vary and this may be responsible for clinical signs." This publication "was a milestone in the study of cerebral vascular physiology."
